Title: Not sure where to put this, here or in the jokes section....
Post by: sledgemeister on July 04, 2011, 10:29:25 AM
There are some cracker one liners that I would have never used in the making of this video confession.
For eg experiencing a negligent discharge, sounds like something a 14 year old boy does at night time.
also another cracker was "when his training kicked in and he called his parents" - no comment!

The video is serious in its nature but hey......as he says "things just tend to happen"

Thanks for posting this, Sledge. I don't think it belongs in the joke section, but in some ways I can see the humor (gallows) in it though. I really think it's more of a warning for us. I know when I saw him shoot himself, I could not help but wince and think "For the grace of God, go I."

I know I will be taking a look at my draw this week during dry fire practice....

You do have to admit  that the the line "I didn't post this to be ridiculed" has to be the biggest waste of breath in internet history ;D. This is particularly true if you wait for the vid to finish and look at his other links. My fav is him throwing his Cold Steel Sambuko spear at a ten yard target and talking about how he wants to go big game hunting with it. ::) Still, it was brave and honest to post the vid and he deserves props for that.  Nevertheless let me say you don't "suffer a negligent discharge". You just screw up and shoot yourself. It reminds of Chris Rock on the difference between Tupac and MLK
: "I'm watching the news … Tupac Shakur was assassinated, Biggie Smalls assassinated, struck down by assassin's bullets … no, they wasn't. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Malcolm X was assassinated, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Them two niggas got shot! Shit, I love Tupac, I love Biggie, but school will be open on their birthday."
And Tex, you didn't "suffer" anything, you F'ed up and shot yourself. ;D Thanks for the post its a good reminder to be careful.

Refreshing to see someone who isn't looking to sue somebody for their own mistake.

Noting that he had practiced many times with the holster/glock combination, much of it dry fire, no doubt.

But he switched to his Kimber and went right to live fire drill.

Therein lies his mistake and the lesson.

As he says, he was very lucky.  That could easily have destroyed his knee.

"My training took over and I called my mommy."  OMG, LOL!!!  I about pee'd myself!!!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

She clearly "trained" him well!   ;D

If your gonna shoot yourself with a .45...  You don't get any luckier than him.  So long as he doesn't stick his finger in the hole and get it infected or something smart like that.   ::)  He coulda hit his femoral artery and even momma wouldn't have made it there on time to do him any good.

From the "edjucational" point of view.  It woulda been more interesting if he'd been using a good quality hollow point.   ;)  Hint, hint, any takers?   ;D

I poke fun, and certainly haven't ever shot myself, but have had an accidental discharge happen with a rifle before.  Nobody injured thankfully!

Handle snakes enough, and sooner or later, one might "bite".  Just be sure to learn from it if it does.

And hope mom picks up the phone!   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've never seen any of this guy's videos, but he sort of comes across as a mall ninja. Got to agree with TAB on this one. At least he accepted the blame himself. Of course that was after he called mommy.

That fella is pretty lucky he was not hurt worse. Impressed that he admitted his mistake and did not blame the gun, holster manufacturer, or anybody else to try to make a buck by a lawsuit.

Who's he gonna sue?  C'mon...  there MUST be somebody who's guilty of something besides this dork who shot himself in the leg!

Sheesh...  Well, at least he admitted it.

Cos the one thing you want with a CCW is a 1lb trigger LOL

I have a sneaking suspicion of WHY he called it a cross COCK carry, Oh My!

well kind of.

What do you mean "kind of"?

He took 100% blame for the accident, and he explained where he went wrong in his choice and switching of tools.  I don't see a "kind of" in his admitting he blew it.

"Warm, flat, salty beer."  I'll take your word on that...  Tex.   ::)

"Tex" needs to loose his virginity worse than anyone I've ever seen.  Get a name not suited for a hill billy's house cat.  And he COULD be a likable guy after that.  :-\

Dear lord. Did a grown man just admit to drinking his own piss? I mean there are exactly two circumstances where that is acceptable behavior. Number one:  you are running low on water in the freaking desert, or number two: your very, very hot and  kinky girlfriend and her twin sister promise good things if you do so (note that number two is optional and subject to debate). However. "I drank my own piss because it was on the web and I want to be the toughest mall ninja out there"? Dude, you are going to die a virgin, and I guarantee no woman will kiss you  on the mouth. :o ;D

He appears to have been using two separate holsters: A 5.11 Thumb Drive and also a SERPA. Switching holsters would not have caused the discharge if he had been following proper technique with the trigger finger.

That is exactly how he described what happened when he took personal blame for the incident.

Which is about the only thing I give him credit for..........after playing the video, he kinda didn't have much choice but to own up to being negligent.

**Side note: In 30 years of gun handling, I have had one negligent discharge myself (20 years ago). A round failed to extract from the chamber of a hunting rifle after the case rim cracked under the extractor claw (rare) but it was completely my fault for not checking the chamber with my eyes and finger before releasing the firing pin.

I use a SERPA almost exclusively for IDPA and USPSA and can see it happening if you really don't understand how it works.  It's part of the reason a lot of local clubs won't allow SERPAs for matches, to many knuckleheads that haven't practiced with it. (or practice WRONG)
There is VERY little need to curl the finger to release the pistol.  If you do, you're ASKING for trouble.  Keep it straight and when the weapon releases you're on the frame, not the trigger, at least with the two I have (Glock/1911).

Booger hook, got on the bang switch wee bit to early in the draw.... "curled"?

SERPA and a 1911? Seems like a tricky set up, I can see a striker fired type pistol working much better with an "indexing" holster...

but not a 1911, super tweaked up Kimber, mall ninja approved pistol...

Lucky it didn't exit out his foot....

He does get credit for the man up,......bet he puts the 1911 in another holster....

He did manup about the shooting, I have never seen him before. The 1st thing that I noticed was the draw looked terrible, not sure if its the camera angle, looks like the muzzle never started to go horizontal and the elbow was way up in the air. Hard to say. Gee I think you would tell the hammer safety from the retention release. BUT SH*T happens.

From my own personal CCW files, my 1911 carries the same in a SERPA as my G27....that is to say, on the draw stroke, the go-finger rides the frame as the gun comes up and out. YMMV.
