When smokeless powder were introduced in the late 19th century, we experienced a new era in the manufacturing of firearms. Paul Mauser’s bolt action design has been copied ever since and are still used in modern rifles.

I have loved the first two episodes of Gun Stories. Very, very well done!

Check your B&W photo that was flashed on the screen showing Doughboys in London during WW1 while the discussion was on the '03 in Episode 2 - those are stacked Krags ;D

Are you sure they were Krags that used a different caliber of ammo and had been phased out a decade earlier ?
Or were they "Substitute standard"  Eddystone P-17 Enfields, which, in the standard 30/06 chambering , out numbered Springfield's by a wide margin.

Absolutely sure. I'm very familiar with the photo. A few early support units that shipped overseas in 1917 went with Krags. At least one Krag-armed engineer company came under German artillery fire during Nov 1917. It is true that frontline units were all armed with 1903's or 1917's. The Krag was used extensively as a training rifle back in the states during the war.

Here's the picture I'm talking about. Look closely and you'll see the distinctive side plate.

I don't get the show so I had not seen the photo. Following your link the distinctive Krag magazine is clearly visible.

Yet another great show.  It's cutting into my reloading and range time though.
