“We had to do something drastic,” says Jerry Flowers, a city councilman in Alto, Texas. “The police department,“ the curiously named Mr. Flowers goes on, ”being a non-money-making entity, was the easiest to get rid of while we catch our breath and build up some cash.”
Sounds like they need better speed traps.....

These folks clearly don't understand how the war on drugs works. All they need to do is plant a few plot plants in some upscale back yards, then they can come by and seize the houses, cars and bank accounts under RICO. They don't even need to try the homeowner, just the indictment will allow the forfeiture to hold. Financial crisis solved. :-X
FQ13 who might be a BIT paranoid, but hey, that makes me normal on this board. ;D

No big deal, Lebanon Me did this 20 years ago and while there was a killing in a drunken brawl at a camp ground the following week that got a lot of local media attention, the fact is that it was an open and shut case that would have been investigated by the State cops any way. There long term effects have been no change in the crime rates in town and the take from traffic violations has, if anything, gone up. Every one knows that Lebanon has no cops patrolling the roads, this has turned it into the "happy hunting grounds" for the State and County cops who DO enforce speed laws there.
