Obama To Unveil Gun Control Reforms In Near Future
WASHINGTON -- Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday.
The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions -- and not an actual bill -- are expected to be handed to Congress.
Administration officials were coy on the specifics, from the reforms the Department of Justice would recommend or when it would actually make those recommendations.
"The president directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common sense measures that would improve American safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights," Carney said at Thursday's briefing. "That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues and we expect to have more specific announcements in the near future."
Just how near? Carney would only say "not far in the future." Another administration official said weeks would be an appropriate measurement.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me--
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
--Martin Niemöller
Parts of the First Amendment have been twisted to nearly outlaw certain religions;
In an effort to rectify past racism certain races have now become victims of reverse discrimination;
Piece by piece our nation has been changed - not for the good, but typically a total reversal with nearly the same problem only on the opposite side.
Which group or issue is going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back, or which group will find themselves the last one left?
I guarantee that if this happens those that go to speak up will find themselves without the tools needed for the very situation our founding fathers feared.

let's see how well these sit with you:
but people involved in talks at the Justice Department to craft the new measures said they expected to see something in the next several weeks

"That process is well under way at the Department of Justice, with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues, and we expect to have some more specific announcements in the near future."
said the director of the mayors' group, Mark Glaze. "That said, there are many steps the president can take on his own authority, without new laws, that could make a very real difference."
****
I feel better that AG Holder, and key stakeholders (like Handgun Control Inc, Brady Bunch, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Center to Prevent Gun Violence, sure that sums up ALL sides)...

Good news and bad news TW. Among the "stake holders" (and what limp dick D- student who barely limped out of my Con Law class would describe an American citizen exercising their 2A rights (or 1A or 4A etc) rights that way)? Honestly, the easiest way to fail my con law class? Not knowing the difference between a right and a privilege. Screw that up and you are done. Still, our elected leaders were not paying attention to the "shall not be infringed" part were they? :P

Nope. Were and "are" ignoring the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 10th,...pick another if you like.
Like Uncle Ted stated.
Does one need a gov't permit to exercise freedom of speech or religion in one's own home?
Than why do I have to have permits, fingerprints, receipts, fees paid, classes, instruction, LEO interviews, and other bureaucratic hurdles for my Constitutional Right to keep and bear arms.
"The great body of our citizens shoot less as times goes on. We should encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as well as in the military services by every means in our power. Thus, and not otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving peace in the world... The first step in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come is to teach men to shoot!"

So if the next bunghole in chief says in an EO that its OK to own slaves again they would be good with that?
