Title: M1 Garand Arrived. Best Monday I've Had In Quite A While.
Post by: twyacht on July 18, 2011, 04:31:09 PM
Took slightly less than 30 days, start to finish.

A little research has this serial # range of production between June 1953, and June 1957.

Sorry about the quality of a pic or two,...... :-\

Jr. with "his" new rifle,..... ::)

Owners manual refers to the M1 Thumb as: quote: "No one ever died from it, but it did lead to a deplorable expansion of vocabulary in many languages. "  ::)

Regarding my previous post about modern ammo.  It's covered in the manual. (Which covers everything).

pg. 6  "If commercial .30-'06 ammunition is used, select loadings with bullets no heavier than 180 grains. Firing bullets heavier than 180 grains is not unsafe but may develop higher residual pressures at the gas port near the muzzle. This can damage the operating rod, necessitating its replacement."

There is some wear on the stock. The proof mark eagle and stars on the stock has a scratch across it.

However, I wish I could photo the rifling inside the barrel. It is immaculate. Mirror finish, beautiful rifling, and the bolt face, follower, and internal receiver is very clean.

Windage and elevation knobs are smooth and crisp in moa clicks.....

Test drive this weekend,......No M1 Thumb..... ;D

M1 thumb is a problem for slow people. If you push the clip in like you mean it and then get your thumb the hell out of there you'll have no problem.

I always use the method of putting the edge of my hand under my pinkie on the charging handle and pushing the clip in with my thumb.  No blood blisters in this household.

Fine looking rifle.

You made me get mine out and fondle it. I guess I'll have to reload some more 30-06.

Congrats on getting a true classic.

Get home safely, and let it rip with the M1. I purchased the milsrup 200rd "can" for $98, from the CMP also.. S&H was $16.

Best prices I've seen for 30-06.

Thank you for the specific date of 55'.........Good year.
