Title: The Official CAS Theme Song?
Post by: fightingquaker13 on July 18, 2011, 11:10:19 PM
I posted this in the "Songs to help in troubled times thread". Thing is though, when you find an old song that you love and have forgotten about you want to share it. Its kind of like falling in love, and then playing yenta for your friends, its irritating, but you mean well. This song is an exception. Tell me you can't see Marshall strapping on his guns with this playing in the background (and checking his hat in the mirror ;))? Hell the Mexican trumpet makes it perfect (shades of "The Magnificent Seven" anyone)? This song is, or should be, the ultimate cowboy tune, and Tom Russell is a great Texas song writer. I mean, when Johny cash covers one of your songs what more needs to be said? Anyway here is a great little tune for the CAS folks, and I'm posting it here, just because the cafe gets more traffic and no one seems to post on "cowboys" anymore. Its a great tune and I like it, hope you do as well, as it about as Texas as it gets.

Maybe he'll like this one as well? "Me and Billy the Kid". An old school Austin can of cowboy whupass via Joe Ely . ;)  ;D ;D ;D

That would work for me.  Reminds me of the Old West.  A time when big, strong, broad-shouldered men rode the trails.  Men like Marshall Dillon.......John Wayne.....Roy Rogers......Janet Reno.....

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

"East of Woodstock and west of Vietnam"  Based on this one song I bought the CD and about 5 more since then. He is a fantastic singer.

Was this what you were trying to post Gasspasser? Its "East of Woodstock, West of Vietnam" by Tom Russell, a damn fine song by a great Texas song writer.
FQ13 who will say this. Say what you want to about Letterman, but he has great taste in music.

Got to admit, I like G.E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band better the Paul Sheafer though.

True, but can he play an accordian (or be man enough to admit it in public) ;D.

One more and then I'll quit I promise, but tell me it ain't the second best CAS song ever (maybe the best played acoustic, but I still like the Mexican trumpet on Tom Russell's "Tonight We Ride"), I do have to say, that as far as a shoot 'em in the street song, this is hard to beat. And again, a great Texas song writer with a pretty cool Texas backup singer . ;) Guy Clark with Waylon Jennings in "The Last Gunfighter". You can't make this stuff up and you can't beat it with a stick. God bless Texas!
FQ13 who does miss Austin a bit. ;)
