Title: Gun Stories is going to make life expensive for me
Post by: Paraguy on July 21, 2011, 12:20:18 PM
Just watched Gun Strories and am now looking to buy a "Pre-64" Winchester Model 84.  I had no idea I needed one until I watched that episode.  I REALLY need one now!  This series could get very expensive very quickly.....

What didn't anyone tell you?   The requirements of watching the show is you buy AT LEAST ONE of the gun being featured.   That way by the end of the season you will have a serious and classic gun collection.

Paraguy,

I think episode 3 featuring the Winchester 94 was the best so far. As for the rifle itself, it is well worth owning at least one. Pre-64's are nice but don't discount 94's built from the Angle Eject era (1981?) onwards if you're looking for a shooter vs. collectible. They often sell for substantially less than comparable pre-64's and have never proven to me to be less worthy in the field. Over the years I've owned one late model .30-30 20" carbine as well as Trappers in .30-30 and .44 Magnum. All were great hunting companions and I wouldn't hesitate a second to use them for home defense, especially the short and handy Trappers.

The show also mentioned the Marlin 336 which I have. The Ranch Carbine is just so nice and short, and still handles the .30.30 well.

Join the Ruger "Million gun Project"
Their goal is to sell 1 Million guns between last NRA convention and the next one. No company has ever sold that many guns in a 12 month period, if they do, they will donate $1million to the NRA.

In 30+ years of owning guns, the one action style that has eluded me thus far is the venerable lever action. This episode of Gun Stories has made that glaring error all the more obvious.

Undoubtedly. In a couple ways the Marlin is superior to the 94.
