Title: Elk! Maybe
Post by: 1Buckshot on July 22, 2011, 10:29:33 AM
Well the Elk and Deer tag draw results are out for Montana. The wife and I drew a Elk B antlerless tags for the 700 area in eastern Montana on a party draw, But as usual the wife did one better and drew a bull tag also for the same area.  :'( I have hunted this area for 15 years so I know where the elk hang out. This is hunting though not killing. I will let you know in November if the Wife and I and Elk are in the same spot at the same time.  ;D

Elk are big critters - especially when you encounter a small herd while you're walking in a parking lot and they're wandering around your car!

What rifles will you and the Missus be using?

If things seem especially green right now, it's just a reflection off this old Crusader.

Envy is not an attractive emotion.  (sigh)

OK. The wife will be shooting her Browning 30/06 loaded with 180gr Nosler Partition bullets. For Deer she uses a browning in
7mm 08. That my friends is a sweet shooting little gun. As for myself, because I will be after  cow Elk and deer I will stick with my 280 rem. also a Browning. Seems like we have a thing for Browning's ;D. If i was hunting Bulls I would use my (Ruger) in 300 win. mag. with 200 gr.Nosler Partition bullets. Its done a good job on the first four Elk. Just because we like Browning so much, we will be hunting on a ranch owned by brothers by the name of BROWNING ::)

Last 2 I killed one was with a M1 the other was with my weatherby in 257 wearthby mag.

I say killed as we were "hunting" a farmers field.  Its not hunting, its meat shoping( well and pest control as far as the farmer was concered).
