Title: Need a Bushnell 10x40... Never let your wife in your gun safe!
Post by: Badgersmilk on August 01, 2011, 10:10:29 AM
Anybody know of a place that still has the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40?  They were selling for as low as $129 recently, but all disappeared quick!  The replacement Bushnell Tactical Elite 10x40 (according to the Bushnell tech. guy) has improved lens coatings, better gas inside, and is made in China.  It also sells for TWICE the price!   ::)  Well, $214 is the best I can find.   :(

Why am I looking?  Because I asked my wife to hand me a radio I keep in the gun safe.  She bumped a "Raging Bull" that lived up to its name...  Fell into and knocked my shiny new Remington pellet rifle over, which landed directly on the back end of the scope.   :'( :'( :'(

The shiny new Bushnell Trophy 4-12X is now cooked.  The magnification adjustment is locked on 12x and won't move.  :(  While a nice scope.  I've got the 10X40 on another rifle and it blows the 4-12X40 outta the water!  At any price.

Now I just gotta find one...  Any help much appreciated!   :)

Unfortunately that's the 3200.  I'd like to find a 3200 for $150 or less (like they've been selling for).  But if I can't I guess I'll spring for the fancy new "Tactical" one for $214.  Just trying to be cheap!  ;)

You guys noticing how Midways prices aren't even close to being as competitive as they used to be?!?  I'm even seeing Amazon beat out ebay a lot of times!

I've searched far and wide, can't find anyone that isn't sold out.  Just thought someone might be using a site that doesn't pop up on the search engines, or something is all.

Have you thought about sending it back for repair?

Good point. It is brand new, and lord knows what their warranty policy is. It might be "You screwed this up its on you" or it might just be a default "Send them a new one if its less than a year old". You don't ask, you don't get. I wouldn't lie to them, but I wouldn't volunteer info either. Just tell them you have a new scope that got damaged and let them make the call.

Okay Badger, I guess that was a little crude of me.

I went and checked my favorite haunts for you and they're all out.

Except SWFA which wants, $399

and Ambient Weather that wants $249.99

It is discontinued, and was a great scope, so the remaining ones are going to reflect that price.

I wish I had stocked up on Nikon Monarch fixed power scope before they were discontinued.   I have one 6x40.   I'd love another along with a 10x40.

I however own one. Not a Busnell, but a B@L Elite 3000, 3x9 and its the best scope I've ever owned (factoring in brightness, clarity and fog proofness) and that includes a Zeiss. If you want to make an offer....... (but it better be a lot more than $200). ;D

The warranty's a really good point I hadn't investigated.  :-[  Just figured.  "Ahhh, no fault of theirs."

BUT, I did just find out this.  "No Questions Asked One Year Warranty ELITE Replacement Policy"

So, I'm out the 110 I spent on the "Trophy" scope (just got back the $30 rebate two days ago.  :-[ ).  BUT, all the more reason to go with the 10x40 this time!   ;)

I've also learned that all the airgun "experts" seem to unanimously agree two piece rings are better than the one pc mount I was using.   :-\  I liked it!  But 2pc it shall be!  (Don't use red thread lock on an aluminum mount!!!)

If you want good prices from Midway you have to get a C&R License. If you send a copy to them you'll get dealer prices, which are very competitive, especially on scopes.  Bill T.

Any reason why they prefer the 2 piece rings? I've had good luck with a one piece RWS, but I'm always looking to improve. What's the rationale?

I looked into a C&R in the past, but talked myself out of it (DUMB MOVE).

Quaker, I searched through several forums for recommended mounts and each time they told the person to look up past threads there for the reasons, but in a couple different cases did specify these.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001WJ4TKK (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001WJ4TKK)

Some of the recommendations were from guys who'd been using them on big bore guns for some time.  On top that two of the airgun stores recommended using two piece mounts.  So for the price (WOW!) I figured what the heck, I'll take their words for it.  :-\

Thanks for helping to look guys!  Gonna check a few local shops for the discontinued 3200 scope, but will break down soon and spend the $$ for the new "Tactical Elite".  Hate buying Chinese made optics, and what ninja came up that name?  ::)

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately other places have the new "Tactical Elite 10X40" for only $15 more.  It's supposed to have better lens coatings, and better gas inside, "upgrading it to 4200 standards, but we got rid of the number system";  What the Bushnell guy told me.  AND that it's now made in China.  :(  But with the warranty they offer...  I'm thinking it's worth the risk of Chinese fumbelry.

Quaker has a Bushnell scope he'd better NEVER let go of.  Unless it's to me!  ;)  They used to make all their lenses here in the US.  I know because my sister worked in their QA dept. and lost her job when ALL their products went Asian.   :(

If your shopping around for good prices on lots of stuff.  http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/ (http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/) is one I like to check that doesn't show up when you Google stuff.  There are LOTS of places on the net like that.  Everybody has their own favorites that are GREAT to deal with, but are hard to find even on the internet.  Forums are a great place to share them!  HINT HINT!   ;)
