Title: Doomsday preppers TV show
Post by: kmitch200 on August 01, 2011, 09:18:25 PM
Just watched the Nat Geo show clearing out the DVR. (mainly due to twyacht mentioning it in the Dilbert thread)
Interesting show. Some of the planning was really creative.

Here's a tip to those that want to stay "under the radar" - - -
DON'T GIVE PERMISSION TO USE YOUR FULL NAME AND CITY TO A TV SHOW!!

In about 5 minutes of checking I was looking at a Google sat. view and street view of both the families homes in the Phx area.

How's that for staying under the radar?

Yeah when I sold FQ the airgun, he wanted to know if I'd take a personal check.   I said sure, I knew where he lived and sent him a Google Earth picture of his house.  Scary huh?

As long as they weren't decoy houses.  Then again, people can be stupid for fame.

We have access to darn near the same technology as the CIA.
Some of the interception and code breaking that the NSA does is beyond us, but other than that the "ordinary guy" can pretty much set up his own intelligence operation.

Yah...I'm reviving an old thread... saving E-ink.
The new batch of Doomsday Preppers is out - hate to say it but National Geographic has altered the audio (show you my surprised face now?)

Had a husband and wife in Salt Lake City with a pair of 10/22's shooing at their bug out house (shack) because according to supra-genius hubby this rifle is the only rifle people will carry in a survival situation so he is building his defenses around a .22

NatGeo has the audio of approximately a .357 magnum or maybe a 30-.06 from the 10/22 every time they shot.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM go the 10/22's

(face palm)

How about the libs up in the Northeast that had no weapons. Saying that they would invite in aggressors and charm them into liking them.  ::)

The rest of us call those "Massholes" or "off site storage".

Funny that is exactly how I look at them too.  I was at a buddy's house for a BBQ this summer and the subject of prepping came up, a Mormon couple showed up and started talking politics, anyway he said he had a pretty good stash as did my buddy.  Then I dropped the bomb of "How are you going to keep it?"  ;D

You'll loan me a gun and some ammo won't you.

Ya, sure... ::)  Buy your own dammit!  He's a good guy just has some priorities screwed up.

most of these people have more money than brains. Like I always say, watch and keep what you can use and leave the rest.

I watched a couple episodes of that show.  There might be some good ideas to be gleaned from watching, but it's kind of like watching old people porn to get ideas about how to decorate your living room.  The potentially good information can be learned elsewhere, and with out the cringe factor.

Jack Sperco from http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/ was contacted by the show's producers...
His first reaction was hell no - all you show are whack jobs, and not down to earth preppers - common people doing sensible things for preparedness.

But against his better judgement - sat down with them to see what the process was.

Turns out the producers TELL the preppers on the episodes YOU WILL DO THIS - THIS (our) WAY
Apparently it's generally scripted to appeal to the larger audience (show you my surprised face now?)

Jack walked -

All so called reality shows are scripted, if think for one minute that anyone of them are not you are just fooling yourself.  What I truly find disgusting about this show is that it is scripted to make prepping look like an extreme foolish idea and makes them look like idiots, and doing the commentary at the end from so called experts telling that it’s not likely. It is a disservice to every person who watches it and drinks the kool aid.

At this time in history if you are not prepping for hard and dangerous times, you either have your head in the sand or are just a fool. The Gov knows hard times are coming and don’t want people to be prepared, and the media run T.V. helps in any way they can.

If you have a country full of people who can take care of themselves and don’t need the almighty Gov, it creates a problem for them. There is nothing they love more than seeing loads of people saying please help me. Just like during Sandy, Oh please help me almighty Gov! OK we will and we will decide who and when and how much we are willing to give if you can navigate the red tape to get it.

A truly Free man can take care of himself, unless your goal is to be a dependent, I would say do your best to prep like never before!

I will never make fun of someone for prepping.  However, some of the reasons the people claim to be prepping are down right comical.  "I'm preparing for the poles to flip" and "I'm preparing for the world to end according the Mayan prophecy" are examples.  Granted, they will be prepared for an earthquake, hurricane, or whatever is more likely to occur, but those aren't what they claim to be prepping for.

It's the same as carrying a gun, if you do it but don't need it people may laugh at you.
If you don't, but DO need it you're bumming.
It's a matter of weighing the consequences.

Much like fire insurance on one's home.  You don't buy it expecting a fire, you buy it knowing that a fire is a possibility.

My mind is reeling with this image... Home decor with wrinkles, now that is a reality show!
