Title: Dave Sevigny at Glock No More!
Post by: fullautovalmet76 on August 08, 2011, 07:33:03 PM
This is straight from his FB page:

"Hello All. I wanted to inform you that I am no longer representing Glock. I plan to continue competing and to promote competition shooting. Thank you all for your support!"

All I can say is WOW!  :o

It would not surprise me to see him wind up at SA....As most of you know he won the Single Stack Classic, which Michael failed to cover  :P, and he was shooting a custom SA 1911. I guess Gaston did not want to give him a raise so he decided to take his talent down the street...

My vote for why he's no longer with Glock.

More like this is the reason.   Glock is......uh,  frugal.            So I've heard around town.

Not saying I'd turn down something over there.  But you're not going to get rich.

Why shouldn't they be? Its not like this is NASCAR or the NFL. There's always going to be some hot young talent who is just thrilled to get paid to shoot. Hell, most of us would do it if they'd pay expenses, travel, ammo and equipment. There really is only so much you can ask for before you are underbid. Unless of course, you are Jessie Abbate. Then, you might possibly have a slightly stronger bargaining position. ;) I expect she names her own price and the sponsors sign the checks. ;D

I'd also imagine that Glock has a rather restrictive contract as well.  If you work for them, I'm wondering if they let you compete with anything other than Glock?   Would rule out Cowboy shooting, maybe even trap and skeet.   If you're with Ruger you have a full range of guns available to shoot.

I'm never going to win a minor tournament, much less a major one, so my hope is to work part time for GSSF or another manufacturer primarily as a trade show representative.   I've actually sent a brief resume to one company offering to work part time at trade shows and events.   As soon as I get my Distinguish Marksman using a .44mag and my NRA pistol Instructor, then I may pursue this dream more earnestly.

I've jumped MB about lack of coverage of many of these events.  He explained the pain of dealing with some other media type that are always there.  I have dealt with the same clowns, and I don't blame him for not wanting to be in the same "kitchen" with them.

Given the two reasons listed by non-authorities to this point I would go with the cash.  Glock does not offer a single stack gun qualifying gun that I am aware of, so using brand SA wouldn't cost him his job.  And while I have noooooooooooooooooo problem hanging around Jessie, Robbie can be a barrel of monkeys at the party all by himself  ;)  My chance to meet and spend time with Phil Strader was interrupted by a walking party, or as Phil called him "a 250# kindergartner."

Imagine if you will...  A tenifer coated single action .45 Colt with Glock's threading in a 4.5" barrel and modern sights.  Ewwwwww, I WANT ONE!!!  ;D

OR, or a tenifer coated, titanium, .44mag., SP101 with glock threading in the barrel and a thumb rest grip!  PUT ME DOWN FOR TWO!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Glock Threading"?

Are you referring to polygonal rifling? (Hint: Glock wasn't the first)

Actually pardon MY ignorance!  I honestly have no idea what proper terminology is for it.  It looks different than anything I've seen before.  But has proven exceptionally effective.  Accurate, Shoots clean, and what little fouling might accumulate is SUPER easy to remove.  I like it!   :)  Under any name.   ;)

Moisture.  Not all the parts in there are tenifer treated.  Came across a G17 with a rusty extractor plunger.  The plunger channel had rust residue inside, but there was no damage to the frame at all.

If I may suggest, Barbicide.  Have your significant other pick you up a bottle of the one with "anti-corrosive" protection on her next trip the beauty salon for $7.  As suggested by the name, the stuff is used by barbers to clean and protect their shears, scissors and such from rust.  Actually sterilizes anything soaked in it.  Best of all it leaves a nice clean dry part that has no stickiness to attract and hold powder residue or fouling.  I'm not saying you can then leave your gun at the bottom of the ocean for 10 years, but a friend (my barber  ;)) has been using it for decades on all kinds of stuff and swears by it.

On contact surfaces I put a few drops of "Z max" engine treatment.  Scoff if you will!  You'll never know how amazingly smooth your gun can operate until you try it!

Using said products on a Glock or AK will pretty well prepare you to never have to service the gun again should the zombies be coming fast and furious.   ;)

Oh crap!!!  ??? Really shocked at Dave Sevigny leaving. And another blow to Team Glock after Jessie Abbate left. Man, that really stinks and now I feel like I am having a bad "Monday"...

Did get to speak to Randi Rodgers about a month ago in reference to Glocks. She has got to be one of the sweetest persons to ever talk to. Really nice and professional and a reason that I continue loving Glocks and their customer service.

Damn, Dave's gone? The World is coming to an end in 2012.....  :'(

Well, as much as the company might know about making firearms and keeping customers happy, it seems they have a bit to learn about running a happy shooting team.

That was a given to happen since she grew up with her dad working there in the Performance Center.

Not all are worked over - Every organization has areas where you can, and they have areas where you can not.  His guns are no more and no less modified than the average shooter or competitor could or would do to them.

Bottom line is that shooters move from time to time.  Jerry left DPMS for S&W, Julie G. moved, Jessie A. moved, Tom Knapp moved ... This is a business, and shooters are employees.

From my own experience it tells me something about the company when you see 1 person leave DPMS, 1 person leaves Para, one person leaves another company, but 3 leave Glock.
In the good companies I've worked for you lose one now and then to retirement or better offers. when half the crew go it's a sign that something has gone down hill.

Please note that the "company" that makes the product will be organized with different management and goals than the "company" that runs the shooting team.

I believe that you are looking at S&W coming out with their own AR and bringing their shooters completely under their umbrella; You get people leaving a company for another that offers more opportunity (broader product line) like Glock not having revolvers or  single stacks; you get good recruiting by team managers and other shooters; and then there is Benelli brining in the new young pup and Tom Knapp jumping to Winchester for ???.

As far as the different management between production and competition - That is true at the grunt level, but every department opperates to benefit the whole, and they all answer to the same board.  PR personality number one and performance success number two are what matters to everyone at all level of management.

As far as spokesmanship and endorsements - A pro shooter is going to bed with whoever pays the bills.  They are like used car salesmen - The best car is the one the are peddling at this moment.

That sounds correct, but if the manufacturing/technical/development component do not feel the company has the expertise to produce revolvers or ARs (There are Glock single stacks, they just might not be suited for competition) and "management" doesn't think the investment in gaining that expertise benefit the company, (let's stick to doing what we do best and not try to be your one stop supper mall of firearms) then the Shooting Team cannot answer all the needs of today's competitive shooters.

This might be the very reason GSSF was created..to highlight the products they produce (exclusively is noted).

Gaston Glock making a 1911 would be like JMB making a revolver. Not going to happen, and for the same damn reason.

Psssst....Badger.....that's normal size for a 1911. That's why you can shoot it with one hand.
Does your unit hand look like that, only smaller?  ;)

It's pretty normal for a persons finger to be to big to get into the trigger guard on a 1911 then...  Did you forget to wear your helmet on the short bus today?

Dude, the 1911 in the photo is real....only the Glock logos are photo-shopped in.

I hate to tell ya, but if you lay a full-sized 1911 in your palm in the same manner, it goes from the top of the palm (at the wrist) to nearly the fingertips (unless you have hands like Kareem Abdul-Jabar).   ::)  ::)  ::)
