Title: FNP vs. FNX
Post by: garand4life on August 13, 2011, 09:48:25 PM
I love my FNP but some of the reported improvements in the trigger, lowered bore axis and grip, magazine capacity and full ambi controls make me very interested in trading up. Has anyone put them head to head to compare them? I'm interested in hearing from those that have actually shot them to compare if the newer FNX shoots as well, or preferably, better than the FNP to warrant the trouble of moving up.

What caliber FNP do you have?  I have a FNP-40 and like it except for the plastic base pad on the mags.  My pinkies seem to push down on it during recoil which, I believe has cause a couple of feed jams.

I don't know about the FNP but I shot a FNX 40 for the first time last weekend, what a great gun. It fits my hands well. great mussel control. I Have Glocks, XD-M's and a Ruger SR9-c. This gun handles better than any of them. I have put owning one at the top of my gun list right after my firs AR which may be the SCAR 17. I shot that last week also. It felt as it kicked less than my 223 bolt action rifle. First time shooting it I was double tapping silhouette targets at 75 yards without a problem.

I think the FNX is a definite improvement over the FNP.   Here's a mini-review I wrote after I got my FNX-40.

If you like striker fired pistols, FN is coming out with an FNS-9 in the near future.  Just a thought.  More options are good!

As much as I love my striker guns, SR9c, cough cough! I really like my hammer guns as well an when I use some of the cheaper ammo for the range the hammer guns tend to handle the harder primers. That said, I would like to see a compact FNS in the near future as well.

I've been full circles with these guns.   Had a Taurus 92, several Walther PPK/s's and a Walther P99s.  (I know that doesn't make me an expert, but it's better than just sleeping in a red roof inn.)

I'm pretty much back to Jeff Cooper thinking, that SA (1911) for serious operators (combat and competition) and DAO (Glock, et al) for most of the rest of the uses; and that DA/SA semi-autos are a solution looking for a problem.

I can completely agree. Hence the fact that the FNX can be carried like a 1911. I just find I shoot this gun better than any of my other platforms. I just don't know if investing money in the new one is really worth it. But judging from what others have said about the new trigger and grip it just makes a good gun even better. Plus the bonus of the higher capacity which is never a bad thing.

Shot my buddy's P99 last month.  Very accurate!  I was impressed with it.  He's had it for years but hasn't shot it at all (the mags are rusting).  He's looking for something more like an LCP.  I was thinking about making him an offer to buy it cheap.

I can message him and see if he's interested in a trade.

Do it.  You can always trade/sell it for something else.

I liked mine very much.  I had the DA/SA model.  I like the magazine release.  It shoots almost to easily in SA mode.  I was doubling shots just by thinking about it.   It just didn't fit in my scheme of things.

I've shot both now and I like the FNP better, no real reason other than just a matter of "feel". It could be I've put about 5k through my 2 FNP-9's combined and only shot a box through a friends FNX-9. If you decide to get rid of your FNP-9 (and it's a USG configuration) shoot me a message first, I'll probably buy it. I'd like at least 1 more and they're getting harder to find. I did get one the other day on gunbroker for $381 though, had it at $341 but someone had to come bid it up on me in the last 5min.

I never really realized how poorly the FNP really fits my hand till I picked up and fondled an FNX today. It's night and day. That being said. At 25 yards I was grouping shots like I never had before this weekend. So, for me the only option was to trade my FNP (non-USG) in towards the FNX. Besides, I would never take and shoot it when I have the option of it's more perfect counterpart. So plus $300 cash and a few days wait for the gun to arrive at my dealer I will be enjoying the pinnacle of FNH handgun design. Now I just need a good holster. I have a blade tech holster and a fobus and can't carry in either. Anyone know a good belt holster for a FNX/FNP!?

I'm a big fan of the "Silent Thunder" holster.  Really like my IWB version.

They have the FNP-9 on the list of guns the make them for.
I've heard (but haven't verified) that holsters made for the XD work for the FNP as well.

Not sure about the XD but my FNP9 fits in quite a few of my Glock 19 leather holsters. It was a little tight but I took a couple and wet them down and re-molded them when I first got the FN and no one had holsters for them.

Oh boy! Got a call from my FFL is morning that my FNX came in just in time for the weekend. I love it! It even fits well in my Crossbreed made for an M&P. So, hopefully I can get it barking tomorrow and we shall see if it handles better than my FNP. Being that the FNP had over a 1000 round through it I don't think the new kid will fair as well out the gate but who knows!!!!!
