Title: Glock Match, SW 629, and 625....my weekend
Post by: alfsauve on August 14, 2011, 04:49:49 PM
I've been working on the NRA Distinguish Marksman, but hastily went to a Glock Indoor League Saturday.  Got a 487/500, which is my highest to date.  Trouble is all my practice last week was 5 rounds in 10 seconds, so my timing was a little off for the Glock match which is 10 rounds in 15 seconds.   Oh well, 490 is my goal when I can find another match.

There's been a S&W 629 w/ 8-3/8" barrel on GunBroker for months from a local pawn shop.  $899  Ridiculously high price.   I don't know what the reserve has been, but I've posted a $600 bid a couple of times and of course haven't won it.   They've let it roll over umpteen times this summer.   I've been tempted to just go to the pawn shop with $600 in small unmarked bills in hand and make them an offer.   Well, this weekend, I hastily, without reading carefully put in a $650 bid and won it!   Evidently they got tired of it not selling and had dropped the reserve.   I could have probably gotten in for less!    Now how do I tell the wife since I wasn't suppose to buy anything else till September?   HONEY?  I got a really great deal?

There are a number of early fall auctions out there with various things.  Rock Island Auctions has another "regional" auction if you feel like bidding on mutliple guns at once.   I have a bid in on a S&W 625 pretty cheap ($375), but it probably won't stand when the auction goes live next week.   I use ProxiBid to find the auctions, then signup directly to save 2%.  Just remember all of them have pretty steep buyer fees (15%+), but if you only bid on really good deals, it works out.

yeah...explain the price was gonna go up $250 after the last day in Aug, so you figured it was close enough to get it and save the cash.

If you really want her OK, giver her $125 of it and say you both made out.

I like that one.   We went for an evening walk and she regaled me with how she was shopping on Handbags.com and decided not to spend any money.   What am I suppose to say.  "Great, cause I've already got it spent."?

Actually, the my  624 for sale on GB is already up to $400 with 6 different bidders and it's still got 3 days left!   So....financially I can justify it.  The timings a just a little off.

"Hi, sweetie.  How do feel about bargains?  I mean really, really, good bargains?"
"What did you buy this time?"
"You won't believe it.  Lithonia Pawn has this absolutely perfect  629yadayadayada for $899 for months and I got it at over 25% off!"
"That's good, dear.   Oh, the landscaper will be here shortly to talk about completely redoing the front yard."  :(

Well, that landscaper is going to cost me, but turns out he's a duck hunter and had three boxes of 9mm in his truck he didn't know what to do with so he gave'm to me!  I'm taking him and his wife as my guest to my range next week so they can get some time with their defensive pistols.

Ha!  Call your landscaper and raise you an FN AR next month.   Two can play this game.  ;D

I'm picking up the 629 Wednesday.

Worked for a guy who tried that once. Six months later he was divorced.
