This has kinda been brought up like it was a bad thing lately and I might be wading into waters that I have no business being in, and Ill be the first to admit with some of the stuff I dont. But on small bit of it I want to add my thoughts. This is not AR-15.com or 1911.org. This not a place where you google search a specific firearm and want to find schematics on disassembly and how it functions. To me DR is a home. A family. Yes its small but that is what attracts me to it. I know I can come on here and people actually know who I am. If I'm having a problem with anything (gun, politics, or personal) I know I can post a thread or send a PM to a like minded person and get good advice on some level.
I like the fact that I can talk about guns, any gun, or product and at least one person has intimate knowledge about it and I dont have people calling me a noob and to search the database that can take me all day to find an answer. I like not posting for three months and someone ask me, hey how is your mom or how is that .357 Lever gun you got. If I need large spectrum thoughts and 500 posts on a topic there are sites I can go to like I mentioned above. But if I want to talk to my friends and see what they think I come here.
There are people on this site, like M25 (Ben), M'ette, Rastus, and Haz that actually will call me if I haven't been on for a while to make sure Im ok. And yeah I work alot and I never seem to call anyone back, even my mother, but I know they called and do try to send a text out to let them know everything is ok, but that is what this site is about to me. A collection of like minded people who, yeah do disagree at times, but in the end are here for each other. So yeah we are not those sites I mentioned before, but is that a bad thing?
(I also like that Tom, Peg,TW and all them are here cause when I get on here its things as I know it.)
And like I said these are my thoughts and feelings. And this is not an attempt to get in the middle of anything that people are involved in. Thats your stuff. This is just my thoughts on a few comments I've seen.
-
Pretty much summed up my thoughts. I did get an automated birthday howdy from AR 15 forum, but its where I go for specific questions. You don't really know anyone on that board. I'd like more members sure, but I like the small town "neighborhood" (or just plain hood ;)) vibe here.

Well it was his water I was kinda wading in.

Part of the reason we don't have 100,000 posers posting here is that we target the trolls and weed them out pretty fast. If you come here for intelligent conversation and debate, you will last. If you come here to start $h!t, we circle the wagons and take care of it. We do have our fun, but we self police for the most part, and those of us that are regular posters are well known to everyone. This is not something that you see a lot on other forums. That, and the total lack of mall ninjas. ;D

Hey! I represent that! ;)

It is one thing to have 100k members, 100k active members or 100k worthwhile members. As has been said, we have a small group of
like minded interested people that know how to share, debate, and give and take. We horse around, we share, we care and we police when we need to. I know it doesn't put lots of cash in the pockets of those providing us with this opportunity, but I appreciate being allowed to have a family rather than a monster mob.
-
My thoughts are,we dont get the numbers because its not a brand specific forum or as Ksail mentioned its not a platform specific forum.i dont post often but you can bet your bottom dollar i'm here several times a day and have some great members here,i even learn something from time to time lol.

Sorry Frank! I didn't know you were just a wannabe, I thought you were the real deal! ;D

Very true.
Given the chance to be a Small Fish in a Giant Pond, or be a Small Fish in a Tiny Pond, I'll stick with DRTV ;D ;D ;D

Sorry,....wrong thread.... 8)
Where else can a time counter remind me in three years, I have spent over 61 days, 21 hours, and 34 minutes,
Ranting, raving, learning, debating, laughing, throwing my collectible styrofoam bricks, and hopefully putting a smile or a frown on so many peoples faces?
It's not 42?
Damn,... :-\

Tom!
In spite of what people are telling you......THAT IS NOT YOUR CAT!
;D

I love this place. I don't post a lot, I mainly lurk. I come here at least once a day and read a lot. If I don't have any pearls of wisdom to throw in I just read and snikker.

Its the only forum I know with a corner...... 8)
Which begs the question. why am I always in the corner?

Because you belong here. ;D

Why are you always in the corner????? Why were you ever allowed OUT in the first place???
We had to put and exit from the corner to the outside just so you (and Phil) could go home on weekends without disturbing the rest of the Forum.
What we put up with......

48 beers is correct. 42 is what happens when your teenage kid sneaks a six pack hoping you're too drunk to notice. ;D

Beer {Official DRTV Answer to the riddle of the universe}
Beer is better than Obama because imported beer doesn't pretend to be domestic.
the massive + about this place is it is relaxed and normally there are not to many fights over things and in 1 thread if it gets heated another thread they are giving man hugs ( remember it is only gay if you push back.. )
to me it is like AHN that Sledge and I am on, just like chatting at a Pub with mates,
down the track I am hoping to afford to be able to get over to the US to catch up with some of you, shoot a few guns and drink our selves sober ;D ( will be a while off though )

All you need is airfare to California, TAB will pick you up, after you flirt with his wife, billt will take you in Arizona, where you can flirt with his wife,...than to Kansas where you can flirt with Marshall'ette, than the eastern states....down to Florida, where you can flirt with my wife.... ;D
In between range time, hog hunts, pub time, and BBQ's,....you'll sleep the whole way home, and if you don't have any tattoo's (officially sanctioned by DRTV),.....and we don't need bail:
It will be a fantastic time.....Time it around the Presidential election, when BHO is officially retired.....than us Americans will really be celebrating. (or rioting, in which case we will need your help)...... ;)

I have met a few people on ARFCOM. But really like all the good folks on here. Even my wife was jealous of DRTV for a while so I had to cut back before we had to go to counseling. Can't get on the computer there while being nagged at for being neglectful. If she knew as much about firearms as you folks than maybe we would talk more.... ;)
Great crew of people and the moderators too for putting up with us. ;D
But I am proud to say that I have never, ever, never, ever been sent to the corner!!!!

Are you kidding? The mods are never here, they're always out shooting (guns or TV - your call), that's why it is so great. Oh, sure, M'ette stops by once in a while to hang something in someone's ass, but other than that . . . . . . ;)

and I for one appreciate that it not a very moderated forum, other wise I would of been booted off ages ago
least here I can be my normal self and not have to worry about being too PC..

I've noticed.....and I must say, that from time to time, YOUR 'normal' is slightly skewed from OUR 'normal'........not that it's a bad thing or anything, just saying.

Not to pat myself on the back, but I think it speaks volumes that our moderators don't need to act. I have been on and followed forums where the moderators are the busiest participants, and there are constant complaints about the moderators and their actions.
We get along well on here, and even when there is a fight we don't have to rely on the heavy hand of mommy ;) The toughest we have had was RP keeping us on topic in his area, and I have no problem with the way he handled or what he handled - It was just a matter of reminding us the purpose or moving a topic to a better place.
I guess my point is that I will take quality over quantity any day, and for those to prefer the other they can go else where.
-
I agree m58 about quality over quantity on this forum.
-
One grain of truth is more valuable than a pound of chaff. I don't read a lot of chaff at DRTV.

I, for one, am glad it is not a huge forum. If you go to some of the bigger ones, AR15.com comes to mind, there are a bunch of a-holes that post there. A new person can ask a simple question, and they go off on them about that question has been asked a million times, and why don't you use the search feature. Just plain rude over there.

You assume each of us only carries one firearm and/or magazine.

A matter of scale. You still come up short compared to the same number of G21 mags. Of course, you do get in some extra reload practice ;D

Bring your calculator next time we meet on the street!
1911 on the hip - cocked and locked with nine rounds;
LCP in pocket - cocked and locked with 7 rounds;
Spare mags totaling between 14 and 28 rounds depending on attire.
However, when you carry a .45 I don't know why there is a need for an ammo store in your pocket ;D
My favorite demo piece was a bullet I dug out of the target stop at the range. I'm not sure if it was a .380, .38 special +p, or a 9mm - we were shooting all three. However, the best thing was that the mushroomed bullet could be dropped through the paper hole cut by my .45 ;D What is that old saying about wondering if a 9mm will expand ;D

Keeping everything else equal, replace all the 1911's with 14 rounds locked and their spare mags with 13 rounds each and tell me what your calculator comes up with? ;D ;D
Holes made by a .45 ACP look similar whether they came out of a 1911 or a G21.
The 1911s are a lot prettier though.

They can have the fridge on their side. I'll take the bathroom.
I can get used to Pizza Delivery and warm beer.
*I don't think any of us honestly expect to win this debate or make any converts just a chance to poke fun at those wrong thinking, thick headed idiots on the other side...who we'd be thankful to have at our backs in any tight spot.
-
Where did this all start again?
Oh yea - It was all about how much better we get along, and how we respect each other so much better than participants on those monster forums do ;D

I choose to stay above the fray with my trusty, though slightly worn, (read: well loved) Sig 229 in .40
With 2 extra mags I have 36 rounds of compact persuasion at my disposal.
So you guys can debate 1911, and tactical tupperware till your all blue in the face. I enjoy listening to the badgering. ;D

Who has a 1911 that only holds 9 rounds? Mine holds 18 rounds. :P
Bunch of sissies.

I gots one!
However, between the 5.5" barrel + the comp, and the C-More I keep getting it snagged on the draw :'( And I don't know what it is, but when I'm in downtown Minneapolis they don't like the Ghost Holster and five mag pouches around my midriff ;D
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/m58/2011.jpg)
Note: Just below the STI is a Para with a 6" barrel ... Also hard to hide, but it also fits the ghost holster and it also uses STI mags, so the belt set up saved me a little coin.
-
I still haven't tried out my 20-round mags for my Para but the 15-rounders work great. They're only as long as a 7-shot mag with a bumper. So why settle for 8 or 9 rounds when you can have 16 on tap?
-

I use factory mags and the Grams extended base pads. never had any issues. I also have some Arredondo base pads but they tend to move around.
Having 18 rounds of .45 is why I never switched to .40 for competition.
