Title: Help with pictures
Post by: jerry on March 21, 2008, 12:05:39 PM
I've tried to copy an email with pictures to a post.  The words are the only things that copy.  Can someone tell me how?  I even copied each picture by itself into a folder and then tried to insert them in the correct place and this didn't work either.  I'm sure somewhere this has been posted before.  I just don't think nobody here would tell me ' I've never heard of that.  You're the first person that has had this problem.'

Seriously.  I do it by having a photobucket account.  I put the pix I want it there and then copy from that account.

You can save them and add as an attachment.. which is ok if you don't have text you want to add in the middle.. but I also use photo bucket.

http://photobucket.com

It is easy and very user friendly.
I mean.. it's so easy ..even Haz can do it.  ;D

OK, How do you do the paperclip thingy and make it grow when I click on it?

The paperclip thingy is a forum software feature. When a picture or pictures are attached (uploaded) to a post instead of being inserted inside the post from Photobucket or similar, the picture(s) show up as a thumbnail below the post.

We've had a few flurries here and there but that was the only serious snow, actually I live in Okazaki which is a 40min train ride from Nagoya. That was early last month, kinda suprising to wake up on a saturday morning and see that. Now its a nice 60 degrees with the sun shining and a cool breeze.

Oh and Hazcat what I did was copy and resize the photos, click additional options, click on the "browse" icon find the photos and post them. It just took me a little time to remember how to resize photos.

I am haveing a bit of trouble myself. I have three or four new guns to brag about, but the pics will not upload to the forum. It says the file is too big. We get 400 kb don't we? I took the pics with wife's new camera. I blame that.

I had that problem as well, thats why I tried photobucket, cut the bottom code under your photo, IMG file, I think it is, then copy it to your post. If I can do it, IT IS EASY!

I was just browsing in the Support section, there is a thread, "Resizing pictures that Marshal'ette posted. That should help.

How were you trying?
Title: Re: Help with pictures
Post by: Marshal Halloway on March 22, 2008, 10:15:43 AM

Before the pictures can be uploaded as an attachment to a post, pictures has to be resized to under 100 kilobytes. Normally, pictures sized to 800x600 with a 50% quality will have a size under 100kb.

You can attach up to 4 pictures total 400kb.

If you don't have an image editing software, you can use http://www.shrinkpictures.com .

This is the Jeep with the Arctic Top on it. I just put the top on it because down there we get pretty harsh winters and the top will obviously protect the interior. I'll take some more pics in a couple of weeks..BTW how do you think a GAU-8  30MM Cannon would look mounted on top?   ::)

BTW That's the view from my little 11 acres down there. We love it  ;)

Good looking Willis!  I have always been PO'd that the Army jeep was declared unroad worthy by the DOT.

Looks like your 11 acres are not very crowded by neighbors.  How's the hunting?  Mulies?

And I agree with Tom, mount that GUA-8 and you'll need a trailer for ammo!. :D

I was riding that Camo Kaw 650 Atv in the pic in the area up to the right of the pic in some hills and came across 17 Deer. Two bucks, 8 & 6 Pt. and the rest doe's. What a Harem.  I got within about 50' of them. Had my Glock 21 on the hip. Couldn't bring myself to screw up such a beautiful sight though. Besides my wife would kill me if I shot Bambi. My neighbor said back in November he saw hundreds of Elk come across his property about two miles south of me. I checked out the area and sure enough there were thousands of hoof prints over an area about 100 yards across heading toward the hills. :o

Okay, Outlaw, I have a question for you, or any other vets, regarding my vote for Miss America and her mini-gun. Why is there a theoretical bar on assigning women to "combat roles" when she and so many other females are blasting our enemies to smithereens on a regular basis? And getting killed in the process. If her job isn't a combat role, I don't know what is. Army gets the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Navy and Marines get Combat Action Ribbons, what does an Airman receive for getting shot at? She had better be wearing one! Thanks, Mac.
ps. How would a young man go about trying to impress that young lady? Don't think a trip to the range would do it, unless he was very, very good.
Title: Re: Help with pictures
Post by: Outlaw on March 23, 2008, 02:00:09 PM
Hey Mack,
As far as a guy impressing her, I would say she summed it up in the caption under the pic. Having flown combat missions as a woman, working in a 99% man environment I don't think the macho-manly-man type would work for her. I've seen it with women that worked for me in the USAF. I would think any man that she is with that could completely remove her from that environment and take her mind off of the killing and gunsmoke and concentrate entirely on her wants and desires would win her hand. After babysitting all that firepower for a 10 hour mission I would think the last thing she would want is to go to the range and watch some macho chismo dude shoot a popgun at a paper target. But that's just me, any females feel free to knock me or correct me. I've been married 37 yrs and can take it.

As far as the combat role; Well, Mack, I heard a Major General once sum it up:  When we came to this great frontier called America, our women had to be tough and quite often fight like a man. It was accepted back then purely as a means of survival. Then our women evolved into a period of wanting to be just that..women. They wanted homes and families and the security of having a husband that would look out for them and protect them and give them the nicer things in life.

Then came Womens Lib and all that. Women wanted equality on all fronts, even to be able to fight shoulder to shoulder in combat with G.I. Joe. That, unfortunately for women is something the men in this world (including the decision makers in the Military and the Pentagon have always been reluctant to accept.) Men just find it hard to accept that their daughter or wife will be pulling out at O dark thirty on a combat mission from which they may never return. It takes all that men have been for centuries away from them..The Protector, the Guardian suddenly don't exist any more. Most men have a hard time with that. After 20 years in the Military I would still find it hard to send my Wife or Daughter into combat.

As far as medals, the USAF has numerous medals the same as any other Corps. From the CMOH all the way down to the good conduct medal.

It will eventually happen. We see it in the movies and it is becoming more accepted. Women flying transport aircraft and eventually crew members on Gunships is a definite beginning. It will happen; but it will be a slow process.

My opinion is: Ladies, if it feels good, do it!   ;)

As far as 'impressing' her, I have always found that not trying to impress and just being a gentleman and being your own, honest self works real well.

Thanks for the perspective on it. I'm of the protective generation and it disturbs me to see women in harm's way. Especially one that looks so much like my own daughter. I agree with your take on her "type" guy. Someone is in for an interesting life. By the way, thanks for your service.

Haz, your philosophy has certainly gotten you out of a lot of jams lately, so it must be good advice. And you're lucky to be dealing with such a sweet tempered lady ;). (is she back yet??)

Mac.

Off duty?  When is a friend or parent off duty? As i said in the PM to you Mac, I'm always here, you have the numbers, day or night.  But it is good to know that she has a good guy closer than I am.
