Title: Irene's Aftermath!
Post by: Timothy on August 28, 2011, 04:00:30 PM
Some major limbs nearly took out my new Weber grill, it was a close one but we survived...

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not much more than a strong thunderstorm here, without any thunder or storm.  Just a windy day as she died when it crossed the sound.

Here we are on the backside of the storm, the most severe part.
No wind, no rain.
We didn't even get enough to flood "Busy Corner", and that floods in a heavy dew.
Irene was "much ado about nothing".

It gave Oblama the chance to show he can handle a weather emergency better than Bush.  You watch this week, the coverage isn't going to focus on how little the storm resembled the coverage, but on how Oblama was cool under pressure and directed the relief efforts like a real leader.

After 89 hours without power, I've proven two things.

I am prepared for most anything as I've been surviving with my sink, toilet and gas grill for four days without city water!  I have supplies in reserve!  Amazing how many flushes you can get from two bathtubs filled to the brink of overflowing.

My wife however, is NOT!

Had I not been able to escort her north to MA on Sunday eve, she might well have expired from several maladies...

I have some thinking to do for the the next SHTF situation!

Cool under pressure  ???

Pres. BHO made sure we all knew he was cutting his vacation short so he could be in Washington DC where he could best handle the emergency.  However, things were not bad enough to keep him in his office when he had a chance to fly to Minnesota on a campaign trip  >:( >:(

Did she get the vapors?

Did she get the vapors?

No, she's disabled.

She needs to keep to her diet and schedule.  An adjustment is necessary but not a major one.  Had I been able to be here rather than go to work, she'd have been fine.

My company has a massive generator set to keep the work going.  We had more power than we needed and the power company is forced, by law, to buy the excess!

Apparently the surrounding mountain ranges, combined with the big lake saved us here from major damage.1 tree got blown down in the center of town but it wasn't big enough to damage anything, and all the water went into the lake and then down the river.
Other places weren't as lucky,  about 8000 still with out power at Noon today.
NH has 3 East west roads running across the State The ones in the center and North are both washed out.
Vermont seems to have taken a real beating from floods as well.

The first page is my neighbor's house.  The first on page two is the neighbor directly behind me and all the trees are in my yard.  We've got most of the trees cut up on our yards but still have a few to finish up before we can clear all the debris.  Getting a chipper and splitter and will have a few years firewood to stack.

Pics from across the bridge.  About 8000 without power still in the three counties.

jnevis,

I see that there was a lot of damage all around but that moral seemed to be high.

I noticed a lot of folks working to clean up the mess and not many of them looked like government employees...only the ones with the big equipment.

Seems you live in a  neighborhood where folks dig in and and try to take care of themselves.....that probably explains the high moral too.

take care.

The wife has mentioned that countless times the last few days.  Probably any other neighborhood in the area, when we were looking for a house, we would have been doing the clean up ourselves.  Every night this week we've done BBQ or pasta for at least 20 people that have been going from house to house getting clean up done.
Couldn't ask for better people.  Now insurance companies on the other hand... >:(

I can't complain too much about my insurance. Knowing full well it's a scam, they have been pretty good to me. That has alot to to with my agent though. Been with him for about 10 years now and he's been really proactive to help me save money. When I asked about flood insurance, since I live close to a river that has been above flood stage for most of the summer. He told me that because I wasn't technically IN the flood plain that I could have all the flood insurance in the world and I still wouldn't be covered. So when I told him that if I saw water in my crawlspace I was burning the house down, he told me to make sure my truck was in the garage so that the house insurance would cover it.  ;D
