A Wisconsin company that disguises deadly firearms with bright paints and camouflage has a new target: Mayor Bloomberg.
Lauer Custom Weaponry, whose products were banned in the city in 2006 because they make dangerous guns look like innocent toys, is taunting the anti-gun mayor with a line of paints named "The Bloomberg Collection."
The company - which named its purple hue after Barney, the dinosaur beloved by toddlers - is peddling a rainbow of candy-colored paints for each of the five boroughs.
There's red for Manhattan, rose for the Bronx, blue for Brooklyn, green for Queens and orange for Staten Island.
And as an extra slap - a stencil of the mayor's face for the barrel of the gun.

I do not expect a rash of 6 year olds being shot by mistake. There are all kinds of things that do not even resemble a firearm that shoot bullets. Tire gauges, hollowed out books, wallets, flashlights, motorcycle handle bars, cell phones.. lots of objects, made into guns. How about; In a confrontation with police, don't point ANYTHING unless you are prepared to get shot, because that is what they are or should be trained to anticipate. That's why they make the BIG bucks! (C'mon, you know I'm kidding)

Good lead on my OD green gun project! Thanks, Mac.

I particularly liked the brick and mortar wall motif - complete with graffiti - for the flagship of the Bloomberg collection. These guys have a great sense of humor.

I saw the Dura coat ad in Shot gun News and laughed my butt off.

Wonder if we could convince Federal or Remington to put his pic on thier ammo boxes. Then call it the Bloomberg Boom Box ;D

They are getting tons of air time over this. I saw them last night on the ABC Nightly News and then this morning on CBS Saturday Morning Show. Of course, you have the stupid talking heads plus the NYC police commish acting like we are giving nukes to toddlers.
I just read today that Bloomberg has cut the starting salary for a NYC cop to $25 grand. While that might be an OK starting salary in Timbuktu, it is diddly squat in NYC. I also read that budget cuts will cost NYC another 1000 police officers.
While Bloomberg is moaning about painted guns and Lauer's paint, crime is getting worse. Go figure. I guess he also hasn't thought that anyone could use good ol' Krylon to paint a gun. I'm just glad that he left the Republican Party which he joined just before running for Mayor. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Gee, I wonder how many police he could keep on the street with all the money he's using to harrass gun companies and law abiding gun shops ?

Can't cut money for the "free loaders" Oh no! Gotta cut money for the things that gov't is SUPPOSED to provide, that way when the tax payers are un happy with service the politicoes will have a reason to RAISE taxes! (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sauer/angry-smiley-030.gif)

Yes, back in the 80's Mass voters passed Propasition 2 1/2 it was a tax cap, saleries for politicians either stayed the same or went up, nothing changed for welfare, Cop's and Firemen got laid off instead. I believe Billy Bulger was Senate president at that time. (Whitey's brother)

Steve and Amy Lauer rock!
Plus, they do a superb job of Duracoating guns.
This is, to me, an ideal way to make the media work for us.
BTW, nothing that looks like a gun is innocent, even if it's pink! It's weird, though...when we ran the NSSF Media Education Program, we realized hat we were having "black gun problems." So I had STI International make me up 2 special 1911s, one in pink and the other red white and blue. Then we had John Paul of JP Enterprises, build up 3 "black" AR rifles...one pink, one purple, one red, white and blue. Those guns truly helped change an amazing number of previously intractable minds...

Thats why Bloomy hates the Idea.

My oldest REALLY wants a pink gun. She saw a Cav Arms AR in a magazine and dedcided that was for her. Then Gander Mt had a pair of pink framed Taurus PT111s in 380 and 9mm that she wanted before she "settled" on an M&P (Durocoated pink of course). It isn't about hthe color but the operator.

I can see it now, just like in Reservoir Dogs, the Bronx (ably represented by Steve Buscemi) whining "But I don't want to be Mr. Pink!"
;D

We have been fancying up ours guns for decades (millennium?) with exotic wood, different finishes (blue, stainless, brushed, browned), fancy grips, engraving, gold inlay, etc.
Why not color?
