Title: A Little Over-Reaction Again????
Post by: pops1911 on September 02, 2011, 10:20:25 AM
Yesterday this headline:

'Mercury spills at Ohio day care, 30 kids affected '
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2016086594_apusmercurydaycare.html

It seems an old blood pressure cuff with a glass mercury tube was broken & spilled. They immediately called the fire deparment with the requisite environmental impact statements & panic. Kids & teachers thrown in decontaminantion showers for 30 minutes...

Where is the common sense? We used to play with mercury in our hands - it is a really neat metal that is liquid at room temp! It can hurt you in quantity, but so can water. If there is a water spill do we run to a mercury shower??

What a bunch of idiotic, uneducated liberal bozos!!

But in the name of ecology we have no problem putting CFL's in every light fixture of every building in the nation.

What does a daycare do when little Johnny knocks over a lamp or hits an overhead fixture with a stick?

Weren't you paying attention? They will call the fire department and take 30min decontamination showers. They will have the cleanest teachers and students around.  ;D

I'm not that old and I remember my science teacher pouring some out on everyone's desk to play with.

Dry ice would harden mercury.  You could mold bells that would ring when struck.

Fun stuff...
