Title: Look for the Union label.

Longshoremen storm Wash. port over labor dispute

LONGVIEW, Wash. – Hundreds of Longshore workers stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were detained for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.

No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said.

The train was the first grain shipment to arrive at Longview. It arrived Wednesday night after police arrested 19 demonstrators who tried to block the tracks. They were led by ILWU International President Robert McEllrath, who said they would return.
The blockade appeared to defy a federal restraining order issued last week against the union after it was accused of assaults and death threats.

These are similar tactics to those used by the Nazi's.
Must be those damned Tea Party people.
OOPS, I forgot, Unions all back those reasonable dems.
Imagine that !

Nobody arrested.  :(  Kidnapping should be one of the charges they're facing.

I wonder if the Security Guards were union members.  Might be hard to prove they were held against their will if they were.

Oooh, a new twist to it.  It's not even union vs. scab, it's union vs. union.  From the updated article:
Quote
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of laborers from another union, the Portland-based Operating Engineers Local 701. Representatives of the engineers union did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Just another shining example of your Unions at work lining its pockets at the expense of its members.

Have a relative that was considered management at a major oil company in CA back in the 70's.  He wasn't really management or a supervisor, but his professional status (engineer) had him salaried and non-union.  The Teamsters went on strike, and after a week the company brought in independent truckers to deliver fuel from the tank farm to stations all over the Los Angeles basin - gas stations had no fuel!

Every trucker had a management member riding with them to document any incidents with the driver, with the striking workers (picketers) or with the public at large.  He learned real fast that you don't mess with truckers:  Leaving the tank farm on the first trip the armed guards and law enforcement opened the gate as the trucks approached, the picketers laid down on the sidewalk, and the driver put his foot on the floor.  To this day my uncle has no idea how those picketers got up and out of the way so fast.

There was nearly a month of this, many trucks damaged or destroyed, and millions in property damage, but what few arrests there were there were no charges and no penalties.  Hoffa has power!

I remember that, I also remember no one was ever charged with shooting at independent Truckers from overpasses.

you know its funny, unions( atleast in the construction trades)  use to mean that you got a skilled person.  now days its a bunch of crap.

Hell the guy that signed off my GC was the head of the local union.  After looking at my work and reconizing my name, he handed me my journymen statis.  Turns out he was my grandfathers last apprentice. ( my grandfather was the head of the union before he retired, and busted his ass every day on the site, not like these professional union workers)  he knew damn well the training I went thru and how it was far more extreme then what they would have put me thru.

Not all union members are democrats. At the Local I used to belong to, 53% of the union members were registered Republicans.

Of course all union members aren't democrats.  If the republicans want to keep their jobs they have to join the union...and since more republicans are willing to work then democrats, you get unions with more republicans than democrats  ;D

That is a totally meaningless fact.
The Union itself uses part of your dues to support the Democratic party.
To the tune of $400 MILLION in '08 alone.
