Title: Gen4 Glock 22
Post by: garand4life on September 11, 2011, 05:26:03 PM
Does the new recoil system make any measurable difference on the muzzle flip / felt recoil of the .40 cal? I know that .40 isn't necessarily that nasty but all thing being equal...

Got one.  Love it.  Very little recoil/muzzle flip.  Love it.  Very accurate.  Did I mention I love it?  Unlike a certain pistol with a numeric designation that shall remain nameless, it works!

When I first got my G23 I found recoil was quite snappy with the ammunition available at that time.  It wasn't the "kick" but the torque.  It seemed to want to twist in my grip and that abraded my delicate palm and thumb pad  ;D

Soon, ammunition was developed to provide excellent self defense terminal ballistics without the harsh snap.  That is shootable all day long.

I've introduced a small woman. 5'2", to shooting and she loved the G23.  Had a Ruger MKII along and we started with it but after she shot the 23, she didn't want to touch it again and shot the 23 till the 100 rounds were gone.  She got her own 23 and CCW and the 23 is what she carries.

I'm sure the 22 will be more manageable.

Ok BAC, you've peaked my curiousity on the firearm that was left unmentioned.  :)

IF the recoil springs are similar to what I have on my G30SF, the recoil will be slightly noticeable. My G30SF (.45 ACP)  recoiled less than my Glock 22 RTF.

I don't think I've got quite the answer I'm looking for. Compared to a gen 2/3 G22, how is the muzzle flip "recoil" of the gen 4?

Might want to check out the Glock forum.  Most of us aren't experienced enough with other gens of Glocks.

I have not had the opportunity to shoot a Gen4. I have owned a Gen2 and G22RFT. The RFT tore up my hand after shooting 500 rounds. I would really like to see how the Gen 4 is. Have you checke youtube and seen if Hickock45 has anything to say in reference to recoil?

Took the gen4 G22 out and put about 200 rounds through it. I gave up on 40 because of the excessive recoil and muzzle flip. This gun however was a complete turn around. The muzzle flip was minimal and more equated to a hotter 9mm. Compared to my old 2nd gen 22 its a totally different animal. I'm very impressed.

Do you think it's because of the geometry of the backstrap? I haven't handled any of the Gen4s.

I liked it with the small (no backstrap) grip. It made it point more naturally and allowed me to get a higher grip without the web of my hand sitting behind the slide. All in all I'd say it wasn't any one aspect of the gun.

Nice report and has peaked my interest. Looking forward to getting my hands on one and putting a few rounds down range eventually.
