On Wednesday, we brought you the story of eight Amish men from Kentucky who were sent to jail this week over their refusal to comply with a local safety regulation.

They say that the mandate, which would require them to post a bright orange triangle on their horse-drawn buggies, violates their modesty code. (They reportedly use reflective tape instead, but that’s not good enough.)

******

Oh Ezeikiel, Zebulon, and Ishmael, have been very naughty boys.... Certainly some young (and old) ruffians up to no good shenanigans!

notice we're going to jail because of the color of the reflective tape on a horse drawn buggy.

Doesn't matter.  The state that brought us Maker's Mark can do no wrong in my eyes.   ;)

The state did not bring you Makers Mark, some person did. The state just locks you up for not having the proper sign on your buggy.
There are lot's of people here in KY that are really PO'd about this.

I would imagine the charges will be dropped. They have to use the orange triangles in Indiana also. Couldn't believe what I was reading at first about Amish being arrested. I don't understand why they just did not fine them and feel this does not warrant an arrest.  ???

It's simple really, these "right wing fanatics" have to be taught a lesson.

I can't believe they are just settling this case.  I lived up there a couple counties up from all of this when it started, three years ago.

It's my understanding from my poor memory of this subject that these guy were repeat offenders.  They had been stopped and fined multiple times for not displaying the triangle before this case was started.  They do frequently take their buggies trough one of the larger cities in the region (it's Western KY even the big ones are little), but I don't get why the tape isn't good enough.

It's seems like this got to the point where neither side wanted to give an inch.

Hi;

     Pennsylvania Amish use the triangles also. From what I have heard - it is up to the local Bishop as to what that community will and will not do. I have seen Amish in a pallet factory (north of harisburg) using forklifts and electric powered machinery as authorized by that local Bishop. Amish Women working in Grocery Stores (lancaster) use all of the modern equipment in it. Amish have House phones (both areas) but you must call them, they can not call you. Cell Phones are a no - no.

     The Kentucky Bishop must be really strict !
