Title: Texas Home security code
Post by: bodean87 on September 20, 2011, 04:40:42 PM
I just had a guy show up trying to sell home security. He said his company was trying to get local homes up to the texas home secutiy code. I have never heard of this. Have any of you heard of it. I believe it was just some bs from an idiot trying to make a sell. THe company was Pinnacle.

Sounds like he was casing the neighbor hood for robbery targets, what better way to find out about a homes security systems than have the owner think you're trying to sell another system.
You can ask about anything except the PIN code.

Back in the 50's sidewall salesman used to tell customers that asbestos siding was nuke proof.

I couldnt locate anything on google either. He had a Texas dEpartment of public safety i.d. I looked it up and they do have a system for you to lookup licenses for home secuity. I couldnt remember his name tho. There were also four or five companies by that name. I may be wrong and God help him if I am but i think it was a scheme to sell secuity systems.

I think a call to local law enforcement should have been your first move, and it still isn't too late!

Only "reach" I can come up with for what he might have been trying to make you believe his system is Texas Compliant is that home security systems often also monitor smoke detectors and states often have "code" for them....at least in rental and commercial property.

+1  Sounds like a BS canned sales pitch. Still call LEO and find out if he has a permit to swindle people dooor to door.
Local PD arrrest some travlers for ripping off old folks here in town on what sounds like the same scam.

The NEC {national electrical code) doesnt require a security system.  Sometimes due to location of your home, the local jurisdiction may require a reporting system in case of fire, as well as a residential sprinkler system.  That is only based on distance of fire stations and water supply (hydrants).  Sounds fishy to me.

I got called out  and didnt get back home till 9 this morning.Thunderstorms caused alota fires. I should have called LE but i just went to sleep when I got home. There is no code here for haveing any alarms connected to the fire station, atleast not for homes.

Every once in a while, we get somebody come bye trying to sell something. My first question for them is do they have a license from my city to solicit door to door. If they say yes I demand to see it. My city forbids door to door sales people so therefore no license. Y'all might try that sometime.

As to this particular incident we had a scam going on around here some months ago and my wife blew that fool off by asking for ID.

I had a salesman stop by last month and spout the same "Upgrade your system to the new laws coming out". (I had an ADT sign in front of the house). Upon my asking "What are the new laws exactly?", I got a bunch of, um, uhhh, well.. I then told them "Well I had better call ADT then, as my system was installed YESTERDAY. (no joke). Nothing but a sales tactic.
