The Moisin Nagant Model 91's are what they are, ugly, cheap but functional. We should all have one, and a spam can of ammo. JIC.
Why they shoot high, and how to correct it. Actually floating the barrel, and tuning the bolt.

The Mosin Nagant 91/30 is a blunderbuss with a bad attitude, a fierce weapon of war from the tip of its pig-sticker bayonet to its skull-cracking iron butt plate. The original 91 was introduced in 1892, improved in 1930, and remained Russia’s top infantry rifle until 1945. Like the Ivans and Ivanettes who carried this beast through seven wars, the Nagant rifle packs a punch. It’s big, robust, heavy, loud, rude, sometimes crude, iron-balls tough, ugly in a beautiful way, cheap, historic and a whole lot of fun if you go easy on the vodka. Whoa. I just kinda described myself if I drop the historic thing and add more vodka . . .
Some owners have lugged this heavyweight rifle to the range, only to discover that their 91/30 couldn’t put a round in a rain barrel at 100 feet. That’s when they start to tear the gun apart or beat it like a redheaded mule. Don’t! With just a little effort, it’s possible to wring out some extra performance from a 91/30 and make it a nice shooter . . .
The process starts with field stripping, which is about as intellectually and physically challenging as removing the cap from a tube of toothpaste.
MN rifles that were battle-zeroed at 300 meters (about 328 yards) took into account the sizeable bullet drop from muzzle to target at that distance. At 100 yards, though, the bullet is still rising from the muzzle, impacting high by an inch or two. Add that 2 inch rise to the 8 to 12 inches of drop already built into the 300-yard zero, and the MN hits not just high at 100 yards, but embarrassingly high. Like a foot or more high. Like Lindsay Lohan high. I’m talking high.

Nutnfancy did a Moisin Nagant in Duracoat and slapped a red dot in place of the rear sight. It definately makes for a unique set up that makes the rifle quick to put on target for 100yds or less.

I bought an M38 a couple years ago and put a red dot on it using one of the rails that mount to the rear sight bracket (no permanent mod). It makes a great ~100 yd hog rifle. The pigs are cooked and dropped in one shot given the awesome muzzle blast/flash from the short barreled M38!

Does anyone know what the most stable scope mount is? I've heard the Darrell Scout Mount is pretty epic, any others?

A friend put a poly stock on his 91/30, shortened the barrel, and had it threaded for a comp.
he utilized a long eye relief pistol scope, however, he did have an Advanced Tech traditional scope mount he got here first, until the bent bolt kit was cheap.

The scope mount is well made and tough enough, especially if you take your time and drill and tap the mount, with a drop of cutting oil.
Than get a real bent bolt.

The kit is cheesy. Unless you slick up the bolt, the one leetle screw, holding the "bent bolt" is doomed to fail. After all it's a MN bolt. ::)
