Title: Benjamin Nitro GP Air Rifle
Post by: alfsauve on October 06, 2011, 07:24:55 AM
First report from the basement range this morning.

The pellet makes a difference.   Fro $150 gun this shoots very well with H&N Match.  I'd expect some flyers.

THESE ARE 10 SHOT GROUPS.

[addendum 10/11]
All shot with a Benjamin Nitro GP air rifle at 10yds with the supplied 4x scope.  Three different types of pellets were used.  The HPs where shot at two different targets and the fifth target wasn't used (smart alecs).

I believe that's the name of the air rifle.  Confused me at first, too.

I was going to razz him about that too. ;D
As I understand it he was testing different pellets all from the same rifle.
The PELLETS came from Crosman and Beeman, the RIFLE came from Benjamin.

Patience, young Padawans.   Patience.

Of course it was  "A" Bengamin Nitro.   "GP" model to be exact.   Which is owned by Crosman anyway, as is the Remington air gun line.

Got a few more tests to run today and maybe "it" will taste its first live varmint as well.

Ahhhh...I have the Remington version, purchased after Badgermilk's detailed review/guide.

Saw your Benjamin and looked them both up and found they were the same....with the  Crossman Nitro logo.

Still working on getting a basement range set up.

Alf, at first I thought each target was a different rifle, I was going to ask why you were bragging about the target with no holes in it  ;D

Okay,  Since Badgermilk's Rem NPSS purchase, I've been curious about these inexpensive gas ram air rifles.   30 years a go about the only gas ram was a Beeman R2 made by Theoben.    Being somewhat of an airgun snob, I didn't believe that a $150-$300 Chinese made Crossman/Benjamin/Remington could possibly hit the side of a barn reliably, even if inside.

Duh.  I was so wrong.   I bought the cheaper Benjamin Nitro for $150.  While my Weihrach HW77 at 3 times the price does shoot a little better, I am greatly impressed with what this "toy" will do.  I've since upgraded the scope to a BSA Air scope 4x32AO.    The groups tightened somewhat with that scope.

The initial target was in fact 3 different pellets using the gun.  Shooting H&N Match pellets it produces one hole groups all day.  (So does my HW77, only a little smaller with a tad more velocity.)   This gun fits me well and seems to be very solidly made.

I've drawn first blood this weekend taking out one of the nefarious brown rats (with cute stripes) that infests my back yard.  One shot at 17yds.   Now my quandary is what to do.  Sell the HW77 and the Beeman R7?  Keep all of them?  I could use the money, but I'm afraid there's not a big market for the other guns.

That all depends on the price brother. ;D
