Gov. Jerry Brown has outlawed the open carrying of handguns in public in California, targeting a practice that top law enforcement officials had denounced as dangerous.
L.A. Police Chief Charlie Beck and L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca were among those who supported the prohibition on grounds that open toting of guns wastes officers’ time responding to calls about armed "suspects" and can lead accidentally to violent confrontation.
Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D-La Canada Flintridge), author of the gun ban, and his supporters said California is no longer the wild west, where citizens need to carry six-shooters on their hips for protection.
"I’m pleased that it has become law," Portantino said Sunday night. "The bottom line is the streets will be safer for law enforcement and families."
The law takes effect Jan. 1. Violations will be a misdemeanor, with offenders facing up to one year in jail and a potential fine of $1,000.

thank all the SOB in so cal that were trying to start a conflict by carrying unloaded fire arms.
has nothing to do with LE being safe.
Remember how I said this was a bad idea and would come back to bite them in the ass...
I told you so.

Yes, you probably should. This will bring about much needed CCW cases. In May a judge (I use the term loosely) ruled that 'May Issue" was OK because people could carry open and quickly load the firearm in a self defense situation..
This just killed his reasoning so expect law suits (like IL).

LA and SF will scream bloody murder, the judge will pass the buck.

TAB is a perfect example of why Ca. gets the laws they deserve.

And it will end up at SCOTUS but they will lose. The very 'judge' that made the CCW ruling in May even stated that the open carry fulfilled the 2A 'requirement' so even a brain dead statist like that understands that Heller, McDonald, etc have upheld the individual right to keep and bare arms.
Here is a link to an article on the CCW decision in May.

So this will apply to LEOs as well, right? I mean CA is no longer the wild west?
"I’m pleased that it has become law," Portantino said Sunday night. "The bottom line is the streets will be safer for law enforcement and families."
But then it also makes it safer for crooks, robbers, kidnappers, murderers and strong arm criminals.

I was actually waiting for one of the guys with the unloaded guns to be mugged... funny how they only were doing it in the very rich, low crime areas... I tried to tell them to take thier fight to oakland. ;D

Maybe I should move back to California where there is no reason to be prepared for self defense.
I refer you back to my thread on Minnesota:

Note that these numbers are not attacks or robberies. These numbers are based off deaths from violent crime. Think of the odds if you through in all potentially deadly assaults and confrontations!

No one needs a gun in Ca. ::)
http://news.yahoo.com/8-killed-southern-california-salon-shooting-234451134.html
SEAL BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Every hair-dressing station was full at Salon Meritage Wednesday when a gunman burst through the door and began shooting, sending terrified customers diving for cover in the upscale salon tucked just blocks from the beach in this quaint seaside town. The shooter then stepped outside, shot a man sitting in a truck in the parking lot and sped off.
Six women and two men died. Their identities were not officially released but owner Randy Fannin was among the dead, his niece, Tami Scarcella, told the Los Angeles Times.
A woman who was wounded in the rampage remained in critical condition Thursday, police said.
Sgt. Steve Bowles told reporters the woman was still hospitalized but was showing some improvement. Her name was not released.
A woman who gave her name only as Cindy told the Orange County Register that she was in the salon, having her hair colored, when the gunman came in, went up to a woman stylist and fired.
At first, the customer said she thought it was a Halloween prank.
Then the man shot a woman who was having her hair shampooed, and then shot the salon owner, who was coloring Cindy's hair, she said.
"I just kept hearing boom, boom, boom, boom," she said. "I ran out. I didn't see his face. I just saw the gun in his hand and him shoot (everybody)."
Cindy said she ran next door to another business, where she went into the bathroom, closed the door and turned out the light.
"There was like a 'pop pop' ... and my receptionist screamed out, 'He just shot that man' and we all went into the bathroom and called 911," said Kimberly Criswell, who owns a salon two doors away and knew many hairstylists at Salon Meritage. "I'm sure I've lost some friends today."

Absolutely JC5123. I also have a brother who lives in San Francisco/Oakland. I have yet to make the trip out there due to the ignorance of their State Government and anti-2A views.

I lived there for 2 years, great weather, lots to see, if I thought I was spending the rest of my life there I would have walked in front of a truck.

I have several highly motivating reasons for visiting Kalifornistan--two grandsons, the nearterm emergence of my first granddaughter, my own darling girlchild, and her knuckle-dragging (but immensely successful) husband. I would love it if they'd move. I mention that to them at every opportunity.

Rest of it is pretty nice.

I was about to post the same thing, except to leave TAB out of it. I really have no sympathy for CA. That state is financially bankrupt and it is morally bankrupt. They deserve it.

10-4. The company I used to work for operated a lot of oil wells in wine country. A bunch of rich double-minded jerks....the ones that did not have mineral rights had careless disregard for the mineral owner's rights and the ones who did have mineral rights would do anything for you because they got a check. Even to the point where they would damage flowlines, tank batteries, etc. and cause spills then report and sue us for their actions if they owned now rights. Many of the wine people did not have mineral rights because the old families held on to their easy income "mail box money".
On the other hand sticking more towards the post, the open carry movement just got there too late. The same arguments against open carry were purported against concealed carry, that is to say there were impassioned arguements that concealed carry would hasten the eventual outlawing of guns because people would think about guns due to the concealed carry movement bringing guns into the daily news. That daily or frequent reminder of guns "caused" by the concealed carry movement would take us out from under the radar and get our rights revoked....exactly the opposite happened.
If you don't stand for your rights they will be lost. Moonbeam signed a law...California has gone backwards in gun rights whereas the rest of the nation has gone forward...especially with the concealed carry movement leading the banner. Rather than piss and moan about the open carry guys maybe it would be better if California citizens would bring people into their sport and grow their numbers to overcome bad laws, bad politicians and bad thinking. I bet there are a lot of people there now interested in the "forbidden fruit" of firearms that only need a friendly smile and the encouragement of an offer to try a gun legally to come over to our side. Teaching them what is legal and not legal of California quirks would remove uncertainty and a day or two on the range would hook a lot of people.

Will we ever see the day when S&W, Sig, Beretta, and others join Ronnie Barrett in ceasing business with government and LE agencies in CA? I know the answer... but it's like dreaming about winning the lottery... I just like thinking about what would happen.

Barrett doesn't/can't deal with California. Not the military, just Ca State Gov't idiots. By Ca Law....
All LEO's, SWAT, Assault Teams that use a .50 have to send them to Barrett every "x" number of rounds for service. Since he legally cannot send them back to CA. (cause AB50 banned them) he voided their warranty, and told them nicely to pound sand.
Here's a snip of his open letter to California, and a bit of a rant against the "anti's"....
Many of you have inquired as to the outcome of the letter I wrote to Police Chief Bratten of the LAPD. Unfortunately, the chief's position did not change. He continued to use his officers in the same deceptive practices formerly utilized with the city council. These few officers testifying in Sacramento ultimately contributed to the unconstitutional AB50 law being passed. It saddened me to have to tell members of the LAPD SWAT team that they would have to send someone for their rifle, because I refused to assist anyone or any organization that is in violation of the United States Constitution. In turn, the department arranged to pick up their un-serviced rifle.
Barrett cannot legally sell any of its products to lawbreakers. Therefore, since California's passing of AB50, the state is not in compliance with the US Constitution's 2nd and 14th Amendments, and we will not sell nor service any of our products to any government agency of the State of California.

Most states try to encourage revenue generating events, conventions, tournaments, etc,....It's called "stimulating" the local economy...
I guess Kalifornistan, prefers to appeal to only the specific, Left-Leaning events, and has plenty of money, and a sound state economy...
oh wait..
nevermind... :-X

most of thier products are legal for sale In CA. Mr barretts are not.( well atleast his 50s and his semis, seen several 416s on the shelf)
You have to understand, CA is run by LA and the bay area. Get outside of those areas and every thing changes.

When I lived out there my next door neighbor was from the Ca. side of Tahoe.
He was just as disgusted with the socialists as I was.
He said the same as TAB, The rest of the state is fairly normal, it's just the urbanized azzholes in LA, the Bay area, and Sacramento that screw it up for every one else.

Having spent alot of time in sacramento... for the most part its the transplants from the bay area that are jerks, the ones from the area are fine.

The people may be different, or at least think slightly different, but the kalifornicated mindet is pernicious and infests everyone to some degree or another.
Besides, when they pass the laws, nothing is allowed to change outside the liberal bastions. That's the point of them being in charge and control over you - you do it their way, regardless of what you want or think.
So, nothing changes outside LA and SF. Don't like it? Change it - and them.

This you are wrong on, it's the numbers game . Outside the evil 3 Ca has about the same population density as NM or Nv.
Even if every single person outside the big 3 cities voted the same they would still be out numbered. :-[
