One on-line retailer, Buds, claims they move 150,000 guns a year. That's about 500 a day assuming they take some time off. However accurate you think that number is I do believe Bud's sells a lot of guns. (http://www.budsgunshop.com (http://www.budsgunshop.com)) In a recent email/flyer they've listed the guns by volume.
Thought I'd share for enlightenment and discussion. There are a couple not listed because they're models no longer available and the purpose of the list was to answer the question for prospective buyers, "What are people buying (that I can buy)."

If you look at the list objectively, you'll notice all, except one, are lower priced firearms (less than $500). The exception being the Bushmaster. Of course they are going to be the more popular, by volume.

As BJ said, most are under $500. Actually a good number under $300 at Bud's prices.
I'm surprised so many people are buying the Mosin though. While it's around $100 delivered, still I didn't expect it to top the list over .380s and inexpensive compact 9mms. Us gun afficiandos I under stand, but the rest of the masses? I'd think Glock would be on the list. Bet Bud's doesn't do a lot of government sales.
Of course one reason is not only Mosin-Nagants low price, but the ammo price.
The armory can deliver it to your house for about 18 cents a round.

I wonder if it's become a popular deer rifle in some parts of the country?

OK, I'll go with that reasoning, last time I compared, and I will admit it's been a while, Bushmaster was on the low end of AR prices too.
Surprised that Ruger beat out Kel - Tec though, Although they do have more name recognition and spent a bit promoting it.
Glad to see my 1911 made #12 ;D

I have 7 Mosins for the reason that they are cheap, the ammo is cheap and plentiful and they are fun to shoot. I do sand down the stocks because the old varnish is bad in some spots and it makes the weapon look better.
There are people that have many more Mosins than I do and they may sporterize some of them.
Also, with the different arsenals making them, people like to get the different makers models and variances in them.
I have many Hipoints for the same reason as to price and ammo. Also the Mags are interchangeable from pistol to carbine of the same caliber. The main problem ( @97% ) with Hipoints is actually the mags, if you correct that - then you have a cheap firing system. Some other manufacturers have ( reportedly) the same problem - so why pay 100-150 more for a pistol ?

What's the famous phrase? "it's the economy, stupid"....Ruger outspends Kel-Tec on marketing and promotion,...Big deal, except fo the slide lock, Ruger had to copy it...
Moisin's are what they are, and what they built for,..."rifles for the masses". Russia needed a cheap, effective weapon to arm its military and civilians, to defend itself. That there are so many left for less than $100 is an attribute to its design. Pig, deer, 2 legs or four, the 7.62 X 54R will knock it down.
Taurus always made good revolvers, had some hiccups with the semi-market, but is getting it ironed out, and will make good in the Customer Service Dept.
Kahr is surprising as it originally marketed itself as "high end",.yet the beauty of Capitalism, seems to have toned down the price to stay competitive.
Rock Island is the "quiet company" letting word of mouth be a large part of its success. "Works like a Kimber, without the Kimber price".
S&W made the Sigma in a desperate move to put something out there to compete with Glock, they have worked it out, and took the best of the M&P, and next gen. Sigmas and are selling. (They have brand loyalty)...
Hi-Points, are like the Moisins. Effective and inexpensive. Although .45 ammo is pricey, :-\ the 9's work. But they are really ugly.
Don't know how to read Bushmaster, as DPMS, had the "budget AR" kinda wrapped up....Perhaps just a move with a glut of AR's on the market to stay competitive.
National gun sales, regardless of brand, are up 20+% a year.....IMHO,......GOOD.
CCW permit apps. are also up....GOOD.
The bottom line is LAWFUL folks are buying. Owning gun manufacturing stock is also good. They beat the margins, and pay good dividends.
Surprised the "G" gun was not on the list.... ::)
