nothing wrong with a hand gun, if you can make your shot placment.

if not, stick with something you can put your shot where you want.

Make sure you are using a legal HH cal.  w/legal barrel length.  Practice reasonable range shots with full power hunting type ammo.  Shot placement is very important for a clean kill.  Also practice the follow-up shot just in case!!!!!

What they said is all good info.
But take terrain into account as well since that may dictate the range of your shots.
Flat, wide open land where you can't get close with out a lot of stalking I'd go with the rifle, wooded, hilly, or swampy "close" terrain your shots will be at short range, take the pistol and have fun.

Or carry both and use what is appropriate at the time.  I always carry a side arm when hunting.

You aren't the only one.  ;)
A 629 is my constant hunting companion.

I have had great performance in my .44's using Hornady LeverEvolution ammo. The 225gr FTX  rounds produce moderate recoil and excellent accuracy in my 7 1/2" Super Blackhawks.

Good luck!!!!

What he said!  ;D  FTX rounds are what is in my 629 and the speed loaders as we speak.

To me, they aren't as violent as the Rem 210gr loads or the various 180gr muzzle blast 'paint peelers'.
