You may have heard this song on the radio and licked the melody line and upbeat rhythms. However, it is a song about violence, bullying and guns,
This is not fringe or gansta music. This is mainstream pop 40 music playing on stations running formats from teen to senior citezens.

Unfortunately songs like this have been written since people have been singing. "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane was about heroin. Hell, "Ring around the rosey" is about the plague.

A local radio station recently did a whole block on "murder" songs...songs about violence, good and bad, quite literally, run all the way through the spoken traditions. I've done a lot of blues songs on the podcast, dating from the beginning of recordings, that had the same subject matter as "Pumped Up Kicks."
It is our nature, perhaps, to glorify violence because we monkeys are so darn good at it.
After all. I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy...

Yep.
Violence-themed music has been around a long time.
Now where did I leave my .32-20?......HEY, Robert............... ;)

Good thing respectable folks like Jonny Cash would never sing about stuff like this... oh, oops! ;D

PS from a collaborative album about Jesse James with Waylon, Charlie Daniels and Emmy Lou in 1980

You find aggressive/combative songs every where.....
"Mine eyes have seen the Glory....."
-
That fluffy pop music ain't violent.

Is it just me, or does anyone else here want to yell "Turn That Sh!t Off"! I must be getting old. ;D

In the early 1990's, the band Pearl Jam had a song called Jeremy and an accompanying video:

The band Filter has a song called "Hey, man, Nice Shot":

it is about the Bud Dwyer incident. If you don't know what that is about, then search for Bud Dwyer too, on YouTube. I didn't put a link to the Bud Dwyer incident video for a reason. You've been warned.
Now, onto more serious stuff....
a few years back, at least 5 years really, I swear I saw a blurb in one of the NRA periodicals about how the Clinton administration was giving or had given tax breaks to the company that produced the TV show ER when they made an anti-gun episode.
Anyone else remember seeing that or reading that?
I would be curious if Obama's administration is continuing the same tax breaks to TV shows or TV channels???

I prefer this from Pantera...
Don't get me started. ::)
and yes Tyler,...it's true. When the zombies come, it will be Pantera as loud as it will go....
