I love the media "journalists" stories on guns. They are so accurate and full of knowledge.

TOBYHANNA, Pa. -
A man shot a gas pump with a World War II era rifle early Tuesday, causing the pump to explode in flames, police said.
The fire was reported shortly after midnight at Mareks Auto Center at Routes 611 and 243 in Tobyhanna, Monroe Co.
Police said their investigation revealed that John Alan Woods, 34, of Lindenhurst, N.Y., shot a gasoline pump from the second floor apartment above the store.
Police said Woods used a World War II-era Russian military rifle with armor-piercing ammunition. The round hit the pump, causing it to burst into flames, they said.
Woods then fled the scene and tossed the weapon in the vicinity of Coolbaugh Elementary School, said police, who later recovered the weapon.
Woods has been charged with third degree criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Woods was being held in the Monroe County Correctional Facility.

Methinks it was a Moisin 91/30 with standard milsurp from an ugly green spam can.....The innocent gas pump, stood no chance... ;D

Can you say "Mosin Nagant"? Yes, that right, I thought you could. ;D
Betting NOT AP, just milsurp ball.

Well it's "armor piercing" if you're wearing 1/16" thin sheet metal.

Mosin = awesome!

Often the ignorant news media reports what ignorant police officers tell them. I've had some success in correcting and educating both police officers and newsies, who mis-report gun related stories. Most commonly is the mis-use of the term "assault weapon." I've been able to get on-air corrections to some stories in the Portland Oregon area.
Most cops are not "gun guys" and are familiar only with the pistol on their hip. The larger the PD, the more likely the Public Information Officer is a seat-polisher who hasn't worked the streets for years.
Next time you see a story that gets it wrong, contact the PD and the news and politely inform them of their mistake. It helps if you can provide some evidence of your knowledge base. It's what Tom Gresham calls the "No shrug" policy for his Truth Squad. Don't simply shrug it off as a "dumb" reporter, but make an effort to educate them. It won't always work, but is worth the effort.
