The United States will not pay $60 million to a U.N. cultural and educational agency after it voted Monday to accept the Palestinian mission as a full member, triggering a U.S. requirement to cut off funds.

UNESCO :U.N. Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization

http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/19051-u-s-cuts-unesco-funds-after-palestine-admitted-as-member

snip-
The United States only returned to UNESCO in 2003, having boycotted the organization since 1984 over what State Department calls "growing disparity between U.S. foreign policy and UNESCO goals."

Despite the 20-year U.S. boycott, President Barack Obama now considers UNESCO a strategic interest and Washington sees it as a useful multilateral way to spread certain Western values.

snip-The United States, Israel's top ally, in the 1990s banned the financing of any U.N. organization that accepts Palestine as a full member. The United States provides about 22 percent of the UNESCO annual budget.

At least for now the U.S. position upholds this. However, look at the countries that voted "for" ALL of the Arab states, Africa, Latin America, France, Russia, China, while Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia and Germany voted against.

snip.
"We were to have made a 60 million dollar payment to UNESCO in November and we will not be making that payment," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.

It's a symbolic vote, but we know how the UN works.
This is a major step toward Palestinian statehood. With a known terrorist group Hamas, in political majority....

But we have an appeaser in chief, Muslim sympathizer, and we'll see what Hillary's position is as time goes fwd.

We may actually lose our vote on the UNESCO Council,,...( :o This is my shocked face)...BFD!!!

*****

Much more at link, on how it works in the UN.....I say, and have said, the UN needs to be the "f" out of this country and Tehran would be a better location.

One report from UNESCO, had a motion to consider UN and NATO troops to support peace keeping efforts IN THE UNITED STATES, if escalation of "civil unrest" becomes an issue with the devaluation of the dollar, possible economic collapse, and the Occupy "Movement"....

You want a Civil War Part Deux?,.....that's one way to guarantee it. Blue helmets on American soil, will become "voting from the rooftops".

Scumbag, asshat, douchbag, bastards...This is the game BHO has played since his apology tour.

I've been to some UNESCO sites and they have some pretty cool things.  I'm generally a fan of science, but they have to deal with the consequences of their stupid choices.
