Looks like you are already on the right track.  I shoot and have for quite a while, but don't feel that I could help you any more than to say watch and talk to the other shooters.

Have fun!

Start with a good gun fit... then shoot a lot.   A good freind of mine once said to some one after they asked the same Q.

"shoot about a quater millon worth of shells"

Trap Shooting is the most fun.. next to Sporting Clays..
I love doing that.  I started shooting trap when I was 20 at a club in Columbia Mo. when I lived there for a couple years.
We shot 3 times a week. made good friends and had so much fun.

We have an automatic trap thrower out at our lake and in the summer we get people together and shoot and it is a ball.
The we also go to Flint Oak once and awhile and shoot Sporting Clays.
Either one will definitely make you a better shot and get you ready for Dove hunting season.

Enjoy yourself and get your whole family involved.. They will love it.

OK, Haz, that's it. Go sit in the corner for 2 days, no more smileys for a week! Of all people to be a grammar cop! Geez!

PS: Leatherman, enjoy the shooting, whether alot or a lot. I tried it, got annoyed at the 2-round limit, I wanted to empty the six round the 1187 I had would hold at the first clay. Went and got a M1A with lots of mags, so now I'm happy. But congrats on the good scores first time out too, that is excellent.
