Title: M&P 22 Review
Post by: fullautovalmet76 on November 06, 2011, 04:10:54 PM
Went to the local gun store/range today and rented the M&P 22.

This pistol is a full size replica of their popular M&P line. I fired 100 rounds (rapid and slow fire) and it never hiccuped. I checked with the store management and they told me they have had the pistol for over a month and it has at least 1,000 rounds on it without cleaning.  8)

It points naturally for me and that is a huge plus, but I will have to get used to the trigger on it though. The trigger is bad, but I will have to work with it to find its spot. I'm told the solution for the trigger on the centerfire guns, is a kit from Apex Tactical, which I'll have to look into.

I am recommending this gun to all M&P owners and anyone looking for a good dedicated polymer .22 LR plinker.
I am thinking of switching to the M&P for competition. I will buy this pistol first to shoot steel challenge in order get used to it.

Do you know what the MSRP is?  Is the trigger worse than the centerfire or is it the same?  What are you using for competition now?

MSRP is $419. The trigger is about the same as the centerfire models, which isn't bad to me; it's just different than what I am currently using. And I shoot a Glock 34/35 or a STI Spartan in competition right now.

Just an update to the story:

I put one on layaway today. I am hearing this pistol is selling very well.

Any updates?

I'm a recent convert to the M&P pistols and been carrying the 45C for about a year now.  GREAT gun - accurate, reliable with everything I've run through it including cast SWC and even round ball.  Liked it so much I bought a full size to go with it.  Really liking that one too.  Been thinking about getting a M&P 22 to get more reps.  I've heard it only comes with one Mag and others are not easy to come by.  I'm also wondering if it would make a good suppressor host.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I have a 40 pro and compact too. The trigger isn't great but it's not terrible either. I doubt that the Apex trigger will work. Walther makes the 22 version and although externally it looks the same as the other M&Ps, it's not the same internally. The 22 has a fixed barrel, saftey, mag disconect and is hamer fired. But maybe Apex will have a 22 version.

I've only shot about 50 rounds so far with no problems.

One thing I found was that the diminsion isn't 100% exact. It's very close, but i've got a holster that both of my other M&Ps fit in but the 22 pushes the slide back until it gets in and then i can push the slide back into battery. I think the trigger guard is just a smig bigger on the 22 version. They look the same and feel the same in the hand. My holster is a IWB Kydex by Kholster. It's snug on my compact and full size but works just fine on them. I have a plastic holser that the 22 works ok in, so don't be too concerned about the minimum size difference I mentioned. I'll be interested if any anyone else has noticed it.

Looking for additional mags if anyone finds any. I plan on shooting Steel Challenge so i've got to find some.
