I don't know if I posted a lot of pictures but sometime this summer I picked up a 629-3 Classic. 8-3/8 barrel, unfluted & recessed cylinder. Well I sent off a request to S&W (along with $50) for "THE" letter of authenticty. Got it back today.
Now, I do understand that S&W has enjoyed making special runs for their distributors and that having a "special" doesn't mean you're going to get rich or that the gun is really rare, but I'm enjoying having a gun that is 1 of 180 and has its own unique product code (103647).
Here's what you get for your 50 bucks. Signed by Mr. Jinks himself. The 3rd paragraph has the really pertinent stuff.

I'm going to have to send a copy of this to Mr Supica at the NRA for inclusion in the next revision of "THE" Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. This isn't a product code he had in the book. One unique aspect is that the frame is a -3 which were only made in 1992-1993. But this gun was shipped in 1996 while they were producing -4 and getting ready to change to -5 models.
And to close out. A few pictures of the prized possession. For those curious I bought this off of Gun Broker from an Atlanta area pawn shop and picked it up in person. While I saved on FFL fee and shipping, the sales tax and gasoline hurt a little. I think it was about $680 altogether. No steal, but a lot of gun for the money. I'd come out cheaper sometimes to buy out of state.

Very Nice Alf.
Great letter to keep (along with the pistol), in the family for generations to come...Unless you want to sell it to me,..... ;D

Why thank you. I'm very please with my purchases this year. I've lucked out on getting some nice guns via the auctions. This one I will keep. Yep, this one I'll keep. My hope is to eventually get back out to IHMSA or NRA silhouette some day, and this and my 686 will be the primary weapons of choice.
