Anyone here have the Ruger LC-9 yet? I've read darn near everything I can find on the gun and can't find anyone complaining!
Any information on quality, problems, ammunition choice and accessories would be appreciated!
thanks in advance!

I'm curious about the LC-9 too.

Michael seem to like his.

Ive had one for 4 months or so. It has been 100% reliable. It is accurate and ergonomic. The trigger sucks on it though. It is very long and stacks up pretty bad at the end. The reset is wierd too in that it clicks twice before it is truly reset. The reset point is pretty much full let off. The sights are usable and probably wont get replaced. As far as CCW I carry it and a Glock 26 in a High Noon IWB and it really doesnt conceal any better than the G26. The ammo I have ran through it is Hydra Shock 124, Winchester Ranger 147, and Winchester White box. I have also run 115gr reloads. Having said all of that....the trigger isnt a deal breaker for me as it is still usable. I do like the LC9 and dont have plans of replacing it any time soon. FWIW

I was looking at one the other day, it's quite a bit larger than the LCP , it might fit in the pocket of a coat or jacket but not a shirt or pair of pants.
I'll stick with my Kel Tec for pocket carry, if I have to use a holster any way I might as well stick with my 1911.

I used to carry my SP101 in a front pocket of my cargo pants. I think the LC-9 is smaller and certainly lighter.
I was hiking the other day and my 1911 was really bothersome banging against my bad hip so I either have to find a better way to carry or find something smaller.

Lighter might be all you need? I hear they are doing great things with synthetics in pistols lately. ;D

I don't have one but handled one at the LGS the other day. It felt OK, not great, but the safety seemed really stiff to get on/off. It was also seemed to be a little oddly placed IMO. It didn't exactly seem in a place my thumb landed naturally, other's reults may vary. Didn't really mess with the trigger or actually get to shoot it. Sights seemed decent.

My 1911 is an aluminum Commander size. Even with a fully loaded mag it's only about 31 ounces. I've been sliding it forward to the 3 o'clock position when I walk. I really don't want to get rid of it but without an income at the moment my only option is to sell it or trade for something.

Unless you don't think you will every be using it again and if you have no one for it to be a "hand me down" , don't sell it. That isn't a weapon you want to be rid of...

Same here. The "niche" it would be looking to fill is occupied by LCPs, and it doesn't do that job as well. And I am satisfied with my .40 and .45 carry guns...and don't think it fills that one as well either.

True, the 1911 is like an old friend to me even though I've only had this one for a few years.
I've been looking at some of the concealment jackets too, maybe a cross draw holster would help as well. We'll see what the next few months bring.

I bought 2 when they first came out. I sold one after a couple weeks and gave the other to my dad. One had a decent trigger (for a Ruger auto pistol) and the other was horrible. I sent the bad one back to Ruger and they took care of it better than expected. They also paid shipping both ways and had less than a 2 week turn-around, with shipping. Ruger customer service is why I always give them a shot. Anyway I found it a little big for pocket carry (ok, in cargo or square pockets, sucks in jeans or khakis) being used to the LCP or J-Frame airlite. It's a great gun for the money but wasn't for me. I hate the "shark fin" loaded chamber indicator but the kicker for me was the magazine disconnect safety. You can argue the pluses and minuses all you want but it totally goes against a lifetime of training for me and is a deal breaker in a pistol. I had no idea ruger added it, the manual safety and the loaded chamber indicator to it when I ordered them. I thought they'd just be a blown up version of my LCP. My dad loves the one I gave him, it's his EDC in the smaller crossbreed. I sold the other for a $40 profit.

Thanks for that B92..
I put my 1911 on consignment this evening. I'll see what I can do when and if it sells in the next few weeks. I did like the feel of the LC9 and it's fine for me in a front pocket as I usually only carry that way in cargo shorts in the warm months anyway. I carried an SP101 that way. I dry fired a few times with snap caps and the trigger wasn't that bad.
For the time being, my daughter lent me her Sig P228 until I make up my mind or find another job. The Sig feels like a railroad tie next to my 1911 but I'll get used to it.
I'll be posting some 1911 parts on the classified once I take some pictures.

BTW, the magazine disconnect takes about ten minutes to remove from what I've read and seen on video.

I'd never do that on a carry gun though. God forbid you use it in a self defense situation and have to explain in court why you removed a safety device. I read about a trial that Mas Ayoob testified in where the person who acted in self defense with a Browning Hi-Power with the mag-disconnect safety removed was convicted of negligent homicide almost solely on the basis of removing a safety device.

I didn't plan on doing it myself but thanks for the advice. I'll mention this to my SIL though as he's already removed his from his SR9C.

I had the opportunity two days ago to handle the LC9 at a gunshop that I stumbled across on way to a meeting. The owner knew little about the gun so I just messed around with it. He had a $399 retail on it...what have others seen for retail?
I liked the feel of it...nice and thin and though I haven't handled a 1911 in years I liked the way it mimicked the angles of one.
A couple of weeks ago I traded my LCP as I really didn't care for it and knew I'd never use it again.....just to dang small in my hands to be comfortable to shoot. I felt the similar looking 9 to be much more comfy in my hands.
I dry fired it a few times with the shop owners permission and found the trigger pull much easier than the little LCP.
I too didn't care for the 'shark fin' if that's what it's called....seemed like one more possible snag. That visual safety along with the thumb safety on the side and the mag disconnect are way too redundant but apparently that's how they like them in Berkley.
I'm still perfectly happy carrying my PPK in a Fobus hip holster. With colder weather here it's easy to manage to carry with a coat.
-
I've had one for nearly a year now. They are popular judging by the number of holsters I've sold for them. Personnaly I could do without all of the California gimicks. I can ignore the thumb safety but hate the shark fin loaded chamber indicator. The trigger is not the best but it is useable. Accuracy is as good as it needs to be. It is pocketable in most dress slacks and cargo shorts and some jeans.
On the major plus side it isn't ammo finicky and will run anything ansd do it all the time.

When I bought mine I paid $695 shipped for 2.

$389.00 cash or check, add 10 bucks for credit card...

I believe $339 is the cheapest in my area. I did see one for $300 without a mag but that means it is just an expensive paperweight until you can find a mag! Haven't priced extra mags because I haven't seen that many.

Does it replace the Glock 26 in some cases? If it doesn't conceal better, wouldn't the Glock still fit the bill?
-
Thanks for the information guys. I've read about 100 reviews and other sources of information over the last couple of days and I've pretty much convinced myself that I won't be buying this little 9mm.
I have only limited resources at the time and if I don't sell my 1911 this week, I'm going to go and pick it up from consignment. If it sells, I'm going with something else like a Sig P239. Still a bit on the heavy side but uber-reliable and accurate as hell! I need all the help I can get in that regard...

The LC9 is slimmer but also taller so as far as "printing" goes its a toss up. The LC9, for me, doesnt replace the G26 so yes the G26 still fits the bill. The LC9 is my wife's CCW at this point. I dont really ever get rid of any guns unless they totally suck.

I was looking at a 239 the other day...I'm a Sig guy but it's kinda not much like a Sig. Boxy, plastic, I just don't like it. But then...small guns are problematic for me. I tend toward ones that are styled after 1911s- small 1911, CZ Rami, stuff like that. Although, one SIL has a G26 that I would use CCW in a heartbeat. It's a nice gun.
They're a little heavier and larger but what about a Bersa Thunder. In 9mm I'm told their dead-on reliable and under $400.
-
I'm probably going to pick up my 1911 next week. Called my FFL (actually, his gorgeous blonde wife) and she said that no one has really shown any interest in it so far.
The P239 is a bit top heavy for me but it's not too small, not too large and the plastic grip panels would be history shortly after. I have my daughters P228 right now and I just don't like a double stack frame at all. Damn thing is accurate though!
The Bersa isn't on the approved roster of goodies here!

Oh...that's right. Like me you are operating under duress....opression from your gubmint.

I have now 8,000 rounds thru mine with no parts being cracked or broken on my LC9. I ccw it all the time with 4 magazines.
-
I'm in the market for a "pocket 9", something that will fit the bill between a keltec and a double stack on the belt. My friend just picked up an LC9 and he's been carrying it. He said it works but after taking it down and re-assembling it he can't get it to come apart again. Problem with that little door thingy on the side not going down enough. I'm still going to give it a look but i'm also going to give a good look to the Walther PPS. Another friend had one and liked it, but didn't care for the trigger safety swivel thingy so he sold it off. I'll probably compare it against the G26 but it does look a lot thinner. We'll see how it works out. I'll let you know.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
