Couldn't resist a post to let off some steam and smoke after the week I had. I just wish I had my old Camaro back sometimes...
We did this with our old hotrods back in the day,....glad to see the tradition never went away.....
;D
Sorry, the rice burners will never compare.... ;)
-
Love it!!!
Basic rule for a performance car: If it idles on its own below 1,200 rpm it ain't a performance engine
Basic rule for a mechanic, tuner or hotrodder: If you can't tune a quadrajet or balance a Holley double pumper you don't belong at the track or cruising the strip! Those are rodding 101, if you can tune a hemi you get your masters ;D
By the way, the basic undergrad passing exam is to blow your small block chevy on a hole shot at 8:30pm, drag it home, overhaul it with spare parts in the garage, and be back to smoke the competition by midnight ... Central Ave. and Indian School Road, November 1976, Series 1 Chevy Luv, 350, .060 over, Edelbrock crossram with dual Quadrajets, slightly modified ;) Powerglide, and 3.75 Detroit Locker ;D

My '79 had a small block in it but in the winter, in Michigan it was two tons of fun for sure!
I bought that car brandy spanky new the month I separated from active duty and went to work for GM. In less than three years I wore that car out...
Too f*#king much fun...
;D ;D

Mine was blue and white, but identical. 1972 Z-28. Bought it for $2500. Less than a certain rifle I want today... :-\
Loved it and regret getting rid of it.
Cue Ball 4 on the floor Hurst Shifter, Pioneer Super Tuner, "cassette player",....and all the old gearhead tweaks to the motor and exhaust. NO METRIC WRENCHES NEEDED.
Boy I miss that car. :'(
-
I never tweaked cars that much, was always interested in pushing the stock cars to their breaking points. I raced a flathead Ford in my folks' Renault Caravelle - and beat him (barely), mainly because the Renault could actually turn while moving and the Ford - not so much! ;D The Renault had an 1100cc engine IIRC. Think 1 liter pop bottle - that was about the total displacement of that little 4-banger. ::)
I had a Mercury Turnpike Cruiser (back when gas was $.33 a gallon thankfully) with a 383 that would smoke almost anything else if I pushed it to the limits.
I loved driving more than tweaking, although I rebuilt a '58 Mercedes 219 sedan. My one wish in life was to attend the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving at Elkhart Lake.
I had a record (33-1/3 RPM) that was nothing other than the sounds from various 6, 8 and 12-cylinder engines GT and Formula engines. Loved the sound of the big bore Chevys and Fords. When I get around to listening to Formula engines now, they sound more like 120VAC Singer sewing machines run at 240VAC.

You know someone had to post this. Hey, if you're of a certain age, its required....... ;D
FQ13 Doughnuts on your lawn Biatch. ;D

That wouldn't be in Phoenix would it?
I got chased by the cops starting at that very intersection...many, many moons ago....it wasn't a very fair chase.
I should have slowed down a bit to give them a chance.
-
Never had the $$$$ to buy something like that and do it on the road but I had a blast in the winter with an old Ford Pinto in the mall PL before the days of the Mall Police!

Yes it was!

Mine is in mothballs right now........maybe the funds will be around in the future to rebuild it again.
82 S-10 pickup......ditched the 4-banger for a small-block Chevy 327...........350 Trans......it would bark the tires if I shifted into 3rd at 80mph.
It was plenty of Mustang 5.0's nightmare in the early 90's. ;D
This has been a fav of mine:
-
In Florida it also had an additional purpose....ALL Mosquito's were gone...They just didn't like tire smoke.... ::)
Cops and neighbors didn't either,...but alas.... 8)

Pay the ticket but include a bill for the mosquito work. ;D

Just shows what a difference them big ol' slicks make ;D
I am a Mopar guy and my first car was a '70 Roadrunner. Went through 2 junk yard motors in it before I finally had a 440 rebuilt. FUN! Miss that car, but that was when gas was $.88/gallon...
If I had it I would still drive it though, more fun for the dollar than any other car I've owned... Hmm...
-
Mine's in the garage, ignored for the last few years. But, since it's a Chevy, I'm sure it'll just need a few gaskets or seals, a battery and some fresh gas and it'll be ready to get me a ticket in no time! :P

73 Mustang Mach 1, 351 Cleveland.
My high school buddy, however, got one of these for his 16th birthday. The bastard...................

68 Shelby GT500. 428 Cobra Jet with a 4-speed. His was that shit-muckley green color they had back then. That car was the closest I have ever come to having a rocket strapped to my ample ass!! ;D
-
Red, that's shameful.
Give her a bath for goodness sake and get a car cover!
;)
-
Nope, not washing it until I can drive it!!! A car cover?? Nevah!! out here in the desert, there wouldn't be any paint left, the dust permeates everything!! :P

Look's just like the one I had except mine was white. 1966 Chevy Caprice SS, 327- turbo 400 trans 411 gears - Holly 750 double pumper.
Mustangs hated me in the late 70's early 80's. ;D
-
Red,...think of all that garage room you'll gain if you sell it to me..... ;)
More room for the "pink" 4-Wheeler.... ;D
-
Red, what year is that El Camino. I had a '70 Impala i wish I had back.
-
Look, I finally washed it and all the paint came off and it fell apart!!

What happened, from one car victim to another?
-
I left it downtown over night...

No, she's just getting a little makeover....sitting for eight years was hard on stuff. ;D
-
Stock suspension with radial tires is a waste of rubber!
Make a difference Red and bring back a beloved favorite! Not a classic but certainly a well loved body style!
-
Never really had a hot car. Closest was probably my first car a 66 Plymouth Fury with a stock 318. Ex drivers ed car, then my dad's, then my brother's, then mine, then back to my brother. That car was hit more times than I can remember. My brother was hit 3 times in a week, twice by drunks within a couple of blocks of home. Graduated from that to a 72 Datsun 1600cc pick up. Prone to overheating and warping the head and body parts that rusted away in a hard winter. Then Chevy 1/2 ton pick up and 74 Toyota Land Cruiser. That Land Cruiser would go through a lot, but I was stuck in that thing more than anything else. Must have been where I was driving it. ;D The LC got a consistent 8 mpg on road/ off road/ summer or winter.
Red, your El Camino reminds me of the one my cousin had on the farm in Kansas, but I think hers was a little older. When My uncle got it for her, he didn't realize it had been tweaked a bit. It was pretty quick.
