Title: Black Friday sales for us?
Post by: fightingquaker13 on November 22, 2011, 08:20:04 PM
Okay, the Black Friday thing has gotten silly. As far as I can tell, most department stores opened at midnight yesterday. ::) But enough about them, what about us? Who is having serious sales? Midway has some serious daily deals going on a number of great products through next Monday including Remington Golden Sabre in various calibers. Downside is that its day specific (.45 Wednesday and 9mm on Friday kind of thing).  Gander seems to have nada, neither does Bud's. Any leads?

Honestly, this kind of mystifies me. Think about it. We KNOW, the wife will be out of the house all day. We know we can get to the store and back (even the gun store) quicker than she can. We also know that even if she catches us coming home, we can talk about what a great deal we got. Then we can look at her three loads of shopping bags and ask sweetly "So how much did you save today"? And for one day out of the year?  We're home free! ;D Where are the deals for the Bro's?

I refuse to acknowledge the term "Black Friday"!

How do you you take the day after our National Holiday recognizing our thankfulness for all God has given us, and at the beginning of the season recognizing the birth of our Savior and market it based on the violence and hate surrounding materialism?

I am more than very disappointed to see the Potterfields jump on the bandwagon, and with all that said I will let this subject continue on without my rants  >:(

Point noted Linus. Now, onto the cheap ammo....  :-[
FQ13 who will be going straight to hell, but I want to be strapped when I go. So, I will also include the "I've got a great deal on .556, even if others think I'm shallow dance". ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

M58, do you know why the day after Christmas is called "Boxing day" ?
I'll give you a hint, it has nothing to do with Cassius Clay, or Mike Tyson.

I know both the original and the modern materialistic version.

... violence and hate surrounding materialism? ...

It might just be a matter of perspective.  We can celebrate the true meaning of the season in our hearts while at the same time helping the wheels of capitalism turn.  Businesses hire people to make, package, deliver, stock, and sell the cornucopia of goodies sold during this time of year.  Instead of focusing on the materialism I think we should focus on the capitalism... putting people to work, infusing our economy with money, and bringing smiles to the people we love.   :)

Boxing day is the day you repack the presents that didn't fit or for some other reason, will be returned.
And if you try to go to a mall for any reason after Thanksgiving, you soon understand where the phrase "Black Friday" originated.
( To the best of my knowledge it was never used before malls became widespread. )

I have NEVER shopped on Black Friday as a matter of principle for not being in a huge crowd, but these jerks almost make it a matter of priniciple to go out shopping http://www.cnbc.com/id/45402815

Okay, the Black Friday thing has gotten silly.  FQ13

It has proven that we have become a nation of consumers that pi$$ away virtually everything we earn on depreciating junk. Most everything purchased on "Black Friday" will be obsolete, in the can, or on a garage sale table in 5 years or less. Toys, games, every electronic trinket known to man, name it. And to add insult to injury most of it will be purchased on credit. Yes, it helps the economy to some extent, but imagine if that cash was retained by the folks and wisely invested. Imagine in 20 years what they would have besides a receipt from a Goodwill pickup?

This nation is addicted to crap. If it's a "good deal" they'll not only buy it, they'll stand in line overnight to do it. It is nothing more than disorganized insanity. Much like Lottery Tickets, the people who can afford the least, buy the most. I remember a few years back my printer took a dump on Thanksgiving. Not having ever shopped on a "Black Friday" I ignored Melanie's advice and headed to the now bankrupt Circuit City to pick up a new one. I got there at 9:00 AM. Big mistake! The place was a total zoo. You couldn't even find the checkout lanes. If they had a fire, it would have made the Coconut Grove look like a weenie roast.

To me personally there is nothing I could possibly want bad enough to go through such a stupid ordeal to buy. I would rather let the herd stampede until after the holidays, then look for whatever I'm in the market to get. Usually things are a far better deal after the masses are spent out, and the stores are all but empty from January until spring. After Christmas there are enough "white sales" to outfit every Klan member with a new uniform.

Galco has a 20% off sale.  Para has a sale. Comp-Tac has a sale.  Might be some others but it is too early to think clearly.

I'm more or less in agreement with m58.  This holiday season from Thanksgiving to Christmas has gotten out of hand.  We began to see X-mas decorations back in October at Wally World.  Yesterday, they had set up a maze of bicycle racks to control the mob of people that will be waiting in line for the rush.  A few years ago, someone was killed in a Massachusetts WalMart being trampled in the fray!

For my family, I'm cooking dinner tomorrow and I will not be leaving the house other than to drive the aging 87 year old Auntie home after she's consumed the requisite amount of turkey and CC on the rocks!  Friday, I won't get near any shopping centers other than maybe the package store.

Christmas will be meager as usual and thinking about the things that are important in life

Good luck finding an American made product during your shopping.  Ammunition and guns are a good start!

To quote Hank Hill, "Yep."

Delivering some vittles to my m-i-l in another county after church this evening.
Frying a turkey tomorrow for dinner with my parents and hopefully dozing on the couch with a John Wayne movie playing the rest of the day.
Friday, I'm staying my fat arse as far away from any retail activity as possible.

From Thanksgiving until New Year's Day traffic is backed up miles from the biggest mall in the area. I won't be in that mess. I think I have a lifetime supply of ammo and I'm not buying any guns right now. There's no reason for me to be out on Black Friday unless I go to my mom's house for leftovers.

I used to be a football junkie (tried to catch as many games as possible)....kinda got away from it. I can only take so many 'holdouts' for more money before they all start to look like overpaid whiners (but that's a different thread).  ;D

That is exactly why I have no interest in professional sports.

Me neither, except for F-1 racing. Today "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" are on. The old Bond movies are so much better than the new ones. GOLDFINGER........."My name is Pussy Galore"..........."I must be dreaming!"......THUNDERBALL......."I'm glad I killed him........."You're glad!??"
