Well as my header say.............Thanks for the message Michael, BUT..............
The posting you sent out about Colt giving away a gun on Facebook was great, BUT, Colt says I can't enter. Yup, because I live in MASS they won't let me enter, that's no way to run a contest. If they are going to do a contest it should be for everyone.
I gave up on Colt years ago when they sold us regualar folks out and wouldn't sell to the pubic.
This is what I posted on the FB Link:
Just another reason why I don't like Colt anylonger. I can't enter to win the gun because I live in MASS. Come on Colt, if you are going to do something like this make it so EVERYONE can have a chance. I gave up on Colt when they turned there backs on us everyday folks and said we won't sell to the public anylonger, then the govenment money dried up and they came back to the public and never said sorry. Take your joke of a contest and put it where the sun doesn't shine !!!
Again thanks for trying to help us shooters out, it's just to bad Colt doesn't want to help us out !!!
See Ya
David

I'll plead ignorance here because I haven't been following this. Is there perhaps some legal reason Colt is excluding Mass. citizens from entering? Or is this one of those, "Contest void for employees and family members", type of rules?
-
Must be a gun that the state of Massachusetts has not deem fit for their
subjects constituents.
-

I was thinking that as well. Something that isn't Massachusetts "compliant".
-
The giveaway is for a Colt 1911.
I doubt that Colt specifically choose to exclude Mass. residents from the contest because they don't like them.
I can only think of one reasons why Colt would make that limitation.
This model is not authorized to be owned by Mass. residents by state law.
I have no idea what restrictions Mass. might have against particular Colt firearms, but I think your dissatisfaction needs to be directed at your state legislature and not at Colt this time.
-
I'm no big fan of Colt, but you can't blame them because your politicians suck.
-

As a Mass resident myself I can attest that this is the case. The current list of "approved" firearms has not one (1) Colt firearm listed. It is not Colt's doing, it's the Firearms Bureau in Newton, run by the State that makes that call. Actually, I applaud the manufacturers that refuse to buy into the whole system.
Here's the October 2011 list if anyone's interested.
http://www.mass.gov/Eeops/docs/chsb/firearms/approved_firearms_roster_06-2011.pdf
p.s. Glocks are only approved if they're used or refurbished. Technically, you cannot buy a new Glock in MA from what I understand. In addition, makers like Sig, who have five or eight models of a particular gun like the P226, each and every one would need to be submitted for approval at considerable cost.
-
As others stated, it's legislative thing in MA. The gun I registered to win is a Colt 1911....The politicians in that state are totally phucked in the head when it comes to firearms..... ::)

You can stop there...

Wow,
I just went back and read the rules and I think EVERY state and even the Disctrict of Columbia are allowed except Mass.
MOVE!!!
Something is wrong with that state apparently.
Only persons residing in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming who are at least 21 years of age can enter.

I find that amazing, someone that is running the contest went through all that trouble to write all the states that are OK, why didn't they just write "if you live in MASS you can't enter", very stupid.
I don't know all the states, but counting real quick it looks like 49 or 50 are listed, again real stupid to write all that out. Heck it's even OK for The D of C to enter.

Yeah, it stinks, but it's obviously your legislature and not Colt that are causing this. Most likely a loophole in the law that has to deal with 'giveaways' of handguns.

Actually, no modern Colt 1911 is allowed to be purchased or given away in MA. Only Colt firearms that were in the state prior to the ban in 1994 are allowed. I've yet to see one in any gun shop near me because folks just don't want to part with them. Colt refuses to try and get compliant guns because, unlike CA, the market is too small. Same with Kimber, Wilson Combat, Les Baer, STI, etc, etc, etc, etc.....

Now that's some good (bad) info. So happy to live in the rather FREE state of Vermont.
CC without a permit....and I get to buy most anything I want (can afford) to.

In VT, can you open carry (long gun or handgun) without a permit too?

As far as I know but have never tested it. Basically I only know that you can carry concealed with no permit. As long as you can legally own a gun you can carry concealed....nuff said.
Maybe I'll wander downtown tomorrow with a shotgun and see if anybody questions it. 8)

Take a look at the facebook page again. At the beginning of the spiel for the contest the say in good sized letters that Mass. residents are excluded. I looked further in the rules to see if the explained why and there I found the big list of all the states/cities except Mass.

No one will say anything, it's Deer season. You may get asked about your license, if you don't have one leave the long guns home.
Vermont does not legislate your 2A rights. They have no laws "allowing" any sort of carry, or any thing else gun related.
Vt gun rights are based on the fact they ratified the National Constitution, including the 2A, and have never passed any laws Limiting the citizens rights.

Wow, even Hawaii is okay.
But wait, Massachusetts, you're not alone. They left off, PR, AVI, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas.

Well you can buy a S&W or a Remington or the new sweet Ruger 1911.
I would buy one of those over a Colt anyday anyway.
As I said Colt still is not in my good graces.
They said for us gun buyers to go to he&&, that they won't sell guns to us. That wasn't to many years ago that that happened. Now that all of their easy money has dried up they are trying to get us to buy from them again, no thank you.
I'll stick with my old colts I have and I WON'T buy anything new from them.

Actually what they are saying is that if you don't respect your gun rights enough to get control of that bunch of liberal crooks you've elected you don't deserve a new Colt.
No one who takes their 2A rights seriously can really argue with them, it's the same as asking why Gun companies continue to support states that hate them, like Ma, Ca, NY, NJ, etc.

As I said before, I applaud gun companies who've refused to comply with their demands on Beacon Hill! It's not about public safety, it's about money and control!
We have ample firearms available here to protect ourselves! Sure, I'd love to have unlimited access but that's not going to happen unless the heavens open up and rain down right thinking conservatives to "Occupy" the state house!

It's even more venal than that Tim.
If it were about "control" there would be more sense to it, and stiffer sentences for the minority types busted in Mattapan, Dorchester, and Roxbury with illegal guns.
Instead it is about money and patronage, "Gun Control" was just a trendy excuse to establish yet another bureaucracy staffed by relatives and campaign donors at the expense of the tax payer .
Just like the MTA.

No argument from me Tom....
I wonder if I could get one of those 70K/year "Toll Taker" jobs on the MA Pike? I believe I can still make change of a dollar without too much thought!
I'm so glad that I can say that I'm NOT from MA but have just been sentenced to live here for the time being! It's absolutely astonishing to listen to locals who believe that "well, that's the way it's always been"!
Apathetic fools!

They're only telling the simple truth.
There was a reason the Revolution began in Ma. and it was not because the people were any more rebellious than else where.
It was because the politicians were more abusive of their powers than in States like NH or Ct.
-
I still believe that if Colt had a larger market here, they would try harder to sell guns. They've just announced five new rifles for the California markets. Colt is a shadow of what it once was but they're still a company trying to make a profit.
-
Ever since the days when Sam was running it Colt has always been more focused on big military contracts than on catering to the desires of civilian shooters.
Their CS is better than HK but the mind set is similar.

That's the truth, I need a front sight blade for my King Cobra and colt refuses to sell me one. They want me to ship the gun to them for replacement .I'll make one myself before I send it to them.

Brownell's or Midway will be happy to sell you a replacement.
You don't need to go with Colt, I'm sure Tru Glo or any of the other aftermarket sight makers would have something the same or better.
-
Checked with them,no one carries/makes a front sight for the King Cobra.I even called Millet to see if they had any,But no luck.
-
If it has elevation adjustment in the rear sight you can replace it with nearly anything that will fit the dove tail.
The critical measurements are the dove tail, and blade height.
-
No dovetail, just a rounded slot that the sight blade gets pinned into.
