Title: In case anybody missed it.. Romney and the 2A..
Post by: santahog on December 17, 2011, 10:01:23 PM
Rommey was called on support for Clintons "Assault Weapons Ban", as well as a proposed 5 day waiting period at the end of the last Fox debate. He didn't back down from any of that Mass hole crap.. He was even given another opportunity to retract it and he elaborated on abortion and said he "supported the 2A". He said that the gun groups supported the Mass gun laws, so he voted for it..
If any of you have some feelings for Romney, make sure you pay attention to that one..
I'm just sayin..

Of course the Mass gun groups supported it, because it was the best they were gonna get. I'm sure Philw would support a 90 day waiting period and a 5 round mag limit on SA rifles in Oz if it were that or nothing. Its nothing about where he stands nationally. It seems like he is the GOPs answer to BO on guns. Neither seems to give a damn and just wants the issue to go away, neither will lead on it. In BOs case that's good news, in Mitt's its dissapointing. Still if pushed BO will go anti. Mitt, well, it seems its just a question of which side pushes harder. I can easily see him selling us out to get a tax deal through. OTOH, if the party holds his feet to the fire he'll lean our way. At least this week. :P

Santahog,

I respect your opinion but please review this link regarding MA and the AWB..

http://www.goal.org/newspages/romney.html

I live in MA and have for 16 years.  I don't care for Romney either but folks need to know the facts on our laws and how we got to where we are today!

As I type this, I have a pre-ban Sig P228 on the table next to me with a 13 round "hi-cap" mag that is perfectly legal under current law.  My SIL just built a fine AR-10 that he shoots regularly and can buy the entire stock at a gun store in the time it takes to fill out the paper work.  If Romney hadn't stopped the state legislature from it's march to ban guns all together, none of the aforementioned would be possible.  Getting a license is quite easy as long as you're not a douche bag!

I don't like the infringement either but it's better than CA, MD, NJ, IL, WI and NY.  With the correct license, full auto isn't out of the question either!

Tim, I'm not trying to be snotty. I just don't see anywhere in his history that he applies the same value to the 2A that he says he values the 10A. I just don't trust him and I don't believe him. Every time he gets a 2A question, he points to Mass and ducks, saying "I believe in the 2A".
There are a number of things that I really don't like about Mitt. One of them is that "fisting" was introduced into the 5th grade curriculum under his tenure. I just can't go there.. You can't have the supposedly puritanical views of a Morman and just let that slide..
To continue off topic.. The guy is so stiff in his self-imposed political persona that if he were to have a gut-level laugh, he'd rip his asshole 4 inches.. He's not even a mannequin. He's not that deep. He's a cardboard cut-out. His campaign smile is a pencil line drawn across his picture like the nerdy kid in school who was so uptight that he couldn't allow himself to laugh. Even Carl Cameron on FOX mentioned his 4 hairs sprayed out of place to make him appear more real... Look at the man.. I don't think anybody here can look at him and see a guy who would pick up a gun and defend himself, in his home or his church.. The guy can't do conflict.. He can't stand being dirty. (Remember 08?) He acts like a gun control guy. He's be fine as the Ambassador to South Africa but he's not limber enough to be the President.. The guy doesn't emote unless it's planned.. And might I add,... The Gov't is not a business to run. It's job is to safeguard the liberty of its citizens.
I could go on...
Your wife ever tell you "I don't trust him", but not be able to tell you why? Even if I didn't have more than ample reason to avoid the guy like herpes, I don't trust him.. It's just that simple..
Again, I'm not yelling at anybody. I don't want it to seem like I am.. It just seems that further explanation is required regarding my reasoning for such an unyielding stance against Mitt Romney.. I just don't trust him..

Santahog,

I cannot find fault in a single point in your comments!  I don't like him much either and he was my Governor!  I will say that he was a damn sight better than all of the Governors in the 16 years I've lived here!

My point was just to point out the facts regarding Romney and the Massachusetts AWB that he signed.  A lot of folks hammer MA for their draconian laws regarding firearms without the factual knowledge of how we got to where we are.  As I said in another post, it's not always a one issue problem and Romney has problems with several big ticket issues as we're all aware!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too! Unless you life in the city somewhere, at least it looks like Christmas where you are..
I spent a day over at Sig Academy in I want to say spring of 08, and I got alot of off hand information from the instructors on the likelyhood of getting a permit to go through Mass, and what happens even if you're legal when you do.. They have a separate class and test for Mass residents, and section for out-of-staters trying to get a Mass permit. I saved the money, took their advice and just stayed away.. Short of one business conference in Back Bay, I went there twice, moving there in 98 and leaving there in 11.. I do miss that part of the country, though. At least you're not Jersey..  ;D

Actually, it's not difficult for a resident.  I took a four hour NRA course (not the NRA Pistol) and paid my 100 bucks.  I had my permit in about 10 days, unrestricted!  For out of state folks, maybe the course is different, I don't know but they only issue for one year and at 100 bucks for one year, it's not worth it.  Traveling through isn't a problem locked in the trunk, unloaded of course.  Stay out of Boston though and keep clear of Logan Airport on the north side.

I also have NH and ME.  Surprisingly, CT was a royal pain in the butt when I lived there last year.  I never finished the required paperwork.  It's easier for a non-resident to get one there.

Christmas will be brown this year just south of the NH border.  The mountains have snow but we haven't had a flake since the storm in October.

NH changed their rules on out-of-state permits from the last I got mine. It used to be cheap. Now it's a hundred bucks.. Still four years, I think. I'm not there anymore so it doesn't matter so much to me now.

How far are you from Kittery or Manchester? I lived in western York County (Limerick), not far from Freedom or Rochester, NH.
The one year at a time permit is ironic, actually.. I'm in Alabama now and for all the perception of the south, permits here are "May Issue" and one year at a time, to boot.. It's between five and twenty bucks, though. A hundred would be considered punitive or prohibitively expensive. The "rules" on CC here are annoyingly different from County to County, too. Some, like this one are non-intrusive in that you fill it out, pay the money and they give it to you on the spot. Some require registration of the firearm, that you actually carry that firearm, and that you live 6 months in the county before you're allowed to apply, like the one next door. I passed up a place over there because I found that out before I closed.. Each Sheriff makes the rules.. I don't like that part at all. Once you have one, though, it's honored no matter where you are in the State. One of these days I'll get my Florida Out-of-State permit. I don't travel really anymore. (Too broke..)
Stinks to have a brown Christmas.. It was almost 60 here today. Still a little green in the grass even. Last winter they got a little snow here and everybody freaked out bad.. All that southern sweetness went away when I mentioned that it really wasn't all that bad.. It was less than 4 inches!! (No salt) A bank teller almost kicked me out of the bank when I laughed at her.. I guess I'm no longer considered a native son..
It's cheaper living here but I wish I could have stayed in Maine.. New wife is Brazilian and wanted no part of the snow.

The $100 is ONLY for out of Stater's, when I renewed in Feb it was $10.
Looking like a brown Christmas up here as well, what we got just before Halloween has been gone for a while.
We got a dusting Sat. night but it was gone by Sun. noon.
Forecast for the rest of the week is clear  30's to low 40's.

This time of year I always ask my self why the HELL I came back here from Ca.

But it's a rhetorical question.  ;D

I live just west of Ft. Devens,  southwest of Nashua.  Kittery is about a two hour drive but well worth the effort!  We spend a lot of time in SE Maine in the summer months.

Someday, I'll go there with some cash to spend and come home with a trunkload of toys!  I rarely leave their fishing department without dropping a Franklin or two!

I've been calling the UPS guy "Santa Claus" for so long, I don't think he remembers that I don't know his name..
