Let the debate begin..... Caliber preferences are also always nice to argue about.
-
My choice is the 1911 format in Commander Lenght. Full size is too much to Conceal for me. A reliable well proven format that is easy to maintain. 45 Cal. 230gr punch in the chest, more than enough to make anyone sit down real quick and not want to get up for more.

1911, snubby or both. :P
-
Kahr P9 with +P golden sabers
-
Keltec P3at pocket carry.
Taurus Millenium pro IWB or OWB when practicable
-
I really do Not care if its 1911 or revolver as long as as the caliber gets the job done.
-
I have carried the 1911PD 4.25", Glock22/19/27( I have also carried the G35/32/31/30/29/23/21/20) and a Jframe 642 for the last 8years. I also carried the SIG220 for a few months until I regained my confidence with the SW1911PD running 100% after having the ejector fixed. This winter also saw a M&P45darkearth on my hip and I loved shooting it but not packing it. Can not wait for the compact model to be available. Early in my LTC days it was a Berretta92 Centurion with the hammer down and safty off. Also a Preformance Center Shorty-Forty carried the same way.
For the last 3-4months it has been total G27(Galco Inside waist/stoked with 180gr GoldenSaber) and J-frame(inside pocket/Stoked with Speer ShortBarrel +P)
So if I own it, I train with it, then carry it, and base a honest opinion. It is very hard to beat the Glock/J-Frame combo right now. 8)

oh and I also forgot............when competition season starts again the 1911 will be brought back out for carry. When I practice 1-2 hours a day with a 1911 it just feels right carrying one. IF YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN MAN!!!!
-
It seems to me that your question is not very well designed.
It asks " what is your choice...". Choice is often dictated or significantly impacted by circumstances.
My 'choice' would be my Ruger Redhawk 5.5 inch 45 colt. Circumstances necessitate other wise and I carry a P3AT at all times with an extra magazine.
-
My choice wasn't really listed. When its practical...I carry my CZ 75B (cocked-and-locked). Its the gun I use for IDPA, so its the gun that I know I can draw, thumb the safety, and deliver a double-tap without thinking about it. But...at 2 1/2 pounds fully loaded, it can be a chore to carry sometimes.
When the CZ's not practical, I have a NAA mini revolver in 22 mag that I slip in my front pocket. ::) I'm waiting for that new Ruger LCP to show up in my local gun shop. That will become my "always" carry gun.
-
M+P .40 with top notch ammo, But, tough in hot summers for Concealed Carry. As it warms up here, my Walther PPK/S .380 with Gold Dot HP is easier and quick to draw and not too heavy in light clothing.
-
FS S&W M&P 40 carryed in a Galco FLETCH holster !!!
I put it under FS DA as it is not a 1911 style, but when you say FS DA due you meen DA Rev. ? I quess there needs to be a few more picks other wise ;D .

I know Glock calls the G30 a sub-compact but I call it a compact at best. But I carry a G30 with two mags every Saturday & Sunday and any day I'm not walking the halls of UNLV where even keeping a gun in my car is a high-grade misdemeanor. I prefer the .45 but my alternate carry piece is a Colt King Cobra 2 1/2" loaded with Cor-Bon DPX in .357.
I've toyed with the idea of contesting the laws based on the fact that by disarming me completely between work and home, the state of Nevada is depriving me of constitutional rights enjoyed by other citizens. However, I'm a right-to-work supporter so have some more thinking to do before I start boat-rocking.
Future concealed carry options under consideration are the Walther PPS in .40 S & W, Para-Ordnance CDA and most likely a Springfield XD in .45. The Glock is equipped with the new Crimson Trace grips and has never, ever failed to fire. But my wife has been hankering for the G30 ever since she fired it and I want her to have maximum protection. She carries a S & W Lady Smith with CT grips and keeps it loaded with Speer +P in .38 Spcl. Hopefully, the Model 60 and the King Cobra will transform into underseat backups and she'll have her G30 in her Galco purse and I'll find something to hang in a shoulder holster and transform myself from academic IT geek into fiction writer so I can carry every day.
We've already decided that our "stimulus" check will go for a pair of Ruger LCP's and a second Mossberg 590 for the home. If the government wants to stimulate the economy, let's stimulate our part of the economy and do our local gun stores some good.
-
I carry a 1911 Govt model currently, I was switching between that and a Taurus .357 with 4 inch barrel but sold the revolver, hope to replace it with a GP 100 also in 4 inch .357 No problem concealing either during the summer.
-
An Airweight .38+p J-frame, wearing a set of Crimson Trace Laser Grips, is my choice.
At 19.4 ounces, fully loaded, including the pocket holster it rides in, it gets carried almost everywhere.
-
Kahr CW9 with Speer Gold Dots loaded into three magazines for 21.
-
Taurus 24/7 9mm 17+
-
P3AT every time I leave the house. The size and weight make it the right choice for me.
-
SiG 239 in 357SIG with CT Laser Grips (Meps as iron sights) holstered in a MS VMII on an Aker belt.
-
I carry an XD40 compact most of the time but on occasion I'll carry a compact 1911 in 45ACP
-
SIG 239 in a MS VMII or Alessi CQC. 357 SIG
Mark
-
Compact SA/DA wasn't an option. :-\
Nor was full sized SA/DA. :-\
Either of which are what I'm likely to be carrying.
-
I answered with what I've got on now. Sig 220 SAS, but I also have a S&W 642 in my pocket and I sometimes carry a 1911. Depends on the occasion. Guess what my favorite caliber is. (check my screen name)
-
I live in Texas and walk around in shorts and a t-shirt most of the time. I love my 1911, but it's not a practical carry gun, so the J-frame snubby goes into the shorts pocket and off I go. Also I occasionally carry my wife's Bursa 380 if I fell like I need the extra ammo and/or a spare clip. But then again if you knew you were going to need a gun today, you would just stay at home, right.

I guess that depends on if the Media would call it "an assault rifle" or not.

I carry a Sig P220 and if I need something a little more concealable I carry my Sig P245. If I know I'm going to have to leave it in the truck I'll carry my XD 45 compact.
-
Full size Springfield Armory 1911-A1, .45 ACP, old school custom job in a Comp-Tac tuckable IWB.

SErious question (big shock, I know ;) )
What is the difference between a auto pocket pistol and a sub compact DAO? If your talking PPK, PF 11 and such as sub compact, I would put those with auto pocket pistol.

Sub compact refers to the polymers that are really too big for holsterless pocket carry - i.e. Glock, S&W M&P, etc..... auto loading pocket pistol refer to the pistols that can truly be carried in a pocket - i.e. Kel Tec, PPK, Ruger LCP, etc.
-
Full size, yes, DAO, no. I have a Taurus 92. So that is what I carry. I would love a millenium or 24/7. But until my piggie bank getts fatter the 92 will have to do.
Oh I almost forgot, I am a 9mm fan.

GLOCK ...............GLOCK....................GLOCK.....................GLOCK.....................GLOCK...........
I carry a Glock 23 (.40 s&w) and/or and Glock 27 (.40 s&w) 99% of the time. Very rarely will I mix it up and carry another type of small pocket pistol/ revolver. If it's warm/hot ..in summer it's mostly the smaller model 27. In the winter and cold it's always the model 23! ::). Although, lately the little 27 is becoming my primary carry weapon. It prints in a pocket too much. But, if you get the right iwb holster/ or a good ankle holster/ ..you can't see it and it's not too uncomforable. *Holster select is key.* A flat holster helps tons. If you can do that.. you can have a small Glock ..j-frame size gun..with 9,10, or 11 rounds of .40 s&w in the mag..all in a gun that can accurately shot 25 yds. What's not to like?
-
Wish I could show my primary carry gun but I'm not able to include pixs. It is a Colt Officers ACP LW with a special thumb safety that extends backwards instead of forward so that I can reach it with my stubby/short thumb. The grip safety is also different because the hump has been built up so that I depress it with my high thumb grip. Looks like s..t but it works for me. A S&W 642 J frame with old style grips and Tyler T grip adaptor is for waaaaaarm weather carry.

Have carried the G23 with 155 grn HST, but it was too heavy, now a Kahr P9.
Have to increase my abdominal muscle and back muscle strength if I want to carry a G23 I'm 5"6" and 150lb and almost 60.
-
I love to carry my 1911's, but I carry my .357 snubby most of the time. It's hot and muggy here in Arkansas, so I can't always wear a jacket or un-tucked long shirt. The snubby is easy to hide, and I never feel under-powered with .357 mag. I will not carry the five shot version though. I always carry the six shooter. I do have to say that I am never far from my 1911 even if I am wearing the snubby. I put a 1911 in the glovebox or the console. I am also the kind of guy that will put a Mossberg Cruiser in the trunk or under the back seat of my truck if I am headed into the unknown.
-
Thanks for clearing that up.
Yes, I suspected it was an age thing, Old ones were "pocket pistols" and new ones (especialy if called "tactical" or "Elite") were "Sub compacts" ;D

I've tried to use just a pocket to carry my Glock 26 (Sub compact)....... depending on what pants I'm wearing, it either wont fit, or its very obvious that I am packing. I just don't think that it is accurate to call it a pocket pistol. You have to get into those micro auto loaders to legitimately call them a pocket pistol.
-
Glock 19, all the way... ;D
-
yeah if I did carry a G27/G23.. G19 would be my next choice.. that or G36 .. hmmm.. lol G19 are sweet though

I've been a law officer and am currently a civilian. As a lawdog, I always carried a model 60 with the old 200 gr. SuperPolice loads. They worked great at card table distance out of the subby. As a civilian living in Maryland (a state with "might possibly issue - if you're a judge, a lawyer, or State Police officer!) I never carry anymore, since saving lives isn't a good reason to be issued a permit. If I did carry nowdays, it would be something small, say 6 or 7 .45 ashtrays. That's only if I were given the "privilege" of the right to carry concealed.
-
Let the debate begin..... Caliber preferences are also always nice to argue about.
It doesn't matter what caliber it is as long as the first number is 4 and the second number is larger than 0. That pretty much narrows it down to .44 and .45. There aren't many .41s out there and a .475/480 is too hard to conceal. Of course my .380 PPK on me is a lot better than my Para 14.45 in the gun safe, and my .22 magnum NAA mini is better than nothing at all. But one shot from a .45, two shots from a 9mm, and four shots from a .380 have about the same effect. They stop a fight. But I'd rather fire one shot than 2 or 4. Of course the .357 Magnum is king of all revolvers and does the job very well, but I no longer have one. I know my Para 10.45 is dependable but I think I'll be carrying my LDA 12.45 once I've shot it enough to prove it's worth. If I put 200-300 rounds through it without a hiccup, then I'll bet my life on it. The 12-shot frame fits my hand a lot better than the 10-shot, and the 3-1/2 inch barrel should be even more reliable than the 3 inch barrel because the 3 incher pushes the recoil system to it's limit. If I was going to buy a new one I'd get the LDA CCO or the Companion. They both have a 3-1/2 inch barrel, a 7-round single stack mag, that sweet LDA trigger, the PXT extractor, and weigh 2 pounds even.
