The U.S. government is sounding the alarm after reports that Dutch scientists have created a highly-contagious and deadly airborne strain of bird flu that is potentially capable of killing millions, The Independent reported Tuesday.

Tune in next week when they will recreate smallpox as an STD. WTF indeed. Am I alone when I think killing them all, destroying the records and salting the earth might be a good idea?

Sometimes those that are considered brilliant, are in actuality, ignorant men in white lab coats. I wonder how long it will take before this gets out "accidentally"?

You can't put the Genie back in the bottle.
Like with nukes, once one scientist proves it can be done others can eventually figure it out.
Short of banning all research as "Witchcraft" there is really nothing you can do.

Your scientists were so busy figuring out if they could, they never stopped to consider if they should.
I like FQ's idea though, worked on Carthage. Or like they said in Aliens, take off and nuke the place from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

How much would you want to bet that they created this with a Grant from the US. Seems that we give countries money for every thing under the sun as it is. >:(

I never even thought about that, but you are probably exactly right. Even if their funding didn't come directly from the U.S. there is probably some U.N. funding in there somewhere, which of course the bulk of which comes from us.
