Title: PARA Night sight shortage
Post by: Ichiban on April 02, 2008, 08:35:30 AM
Has anyone heard of a shortage of night sights?  Para has had my slide for an inordinate amount of time to install the $99.00 night sights and they are telling me that there is an industry wide shortage of night sights so they don't know when they will be able to get it done.  That makes me unhappy as I really like that gun.

It's not that I don't trust Para, but we are talking months here.

Thanks,
Scott

P.S.  They quote a three to four week turn around time even when they do have them in stock.  Seems kind of long to me but maybe they are just sandbagging that number.

Sounds kinda iffy to me. Like they're backlogged on work. Which sights are you getting? I ordered Meprolite sights for my XD9 thru my local dealer. He recieved them and had them installed in 4 days. He said he could have gotten the same response from Trijicon for about 25.00 more.

Yeah, which sights?  I talked to a guy just this weekend on the range that had custom Novaks installed (they're nearby, so he just drove his pistol up there) and didn't report any delays.

A few years ago I had the sights on my Dads T/C Hawken replaced with Fiber optics and they  (T/C) changed them in about 10 minutes or less.

The gun (Carry9) came with a certificate for night sights for $99.00.  They didn't specify but I ASSumed that they were the Meprolight Tritium that I've seen on other Carry9s.  It didn't seem like a killer deal but it was ball park for what I thought they'd go for plus I like the idea of the factory doing the work as I haven't found a good gunsmith locally.  I figured it would be a twenty minute job so I calculated a couple of days shipping (to and from) and about a two to three day queue time - so my initial estimate was seven to ten days.  For a twenty minute job.

They are burning through an awful lot of customer good will at this point.  I've had others ask me about the gun and I've told them that I really like the gun, but...........  I'm pretty sure that I've cost them at least one sale.

I think I'll give them one more week (I am patient) and them have them return the slide and I'll handle it locally.  Oh yeah, this will factor into my decision to buy another Para.

I've not heard anything about a shortage until this. Hope it's not true..  :o I love night sights and have them on all my carry guns. I would recommend them to others.

I talked to a Para representative this AM abbout all this. He will get right on it to get the latest.

We should have a report early next week.

Ok, here's the answer from Para:

Chief Operations Officer at Para-Ordnance informed us that their first vendor for the tritium tubes for their night sights had failed to deliver over 700 sets of them. The vendor claimed that there was a shortage of tritium tubes and that is where the story came about a shortage of tubes. To this day that vendor still has not delivered. Once it became obvious there was a problem Para went looking for another source.

Para chose to go with the best, the industry leader in tritium tubes, Trijicon. But as you can imagine when you have to start all over from scratch with a new vendor it has taken a bit of time. Here is the good news for Para customers even though the new Trijicon tubes are more expensive anyone who has a pistol at Para’s customer service or anyone who still has a $99 coupon will get that price. Para will eat the cost increase.

The first order of Para Night Sights with Trijicon tubes should arrive at the Para USA Customer Service Center this coming Monday, April 7, 2008. The order is large enough to clean up the back order of slides and/or pistols waiting there for night sights. Para USA’s Customer Service Center will make it a priority to install them and get customers back their slides with the new night sights with premium Trijicon tubes in them.

Damn!  You guys rock!

I just wanted to see if anyone else had encountered this problem (okay, maybe to vent a little too) and y'all went out of your way to get to the bottom of it.  Very impressive and much appreciated.  I get kept in the dark enough at work so it annoys me even more in the real world.

I love that little Para and am looking forward to getting some range time with it soon.

Next time you're in Colorado Springs I'll buy you an adult beverage of you choosing.

Thanks again,
Scott

Hey Number One, If they happened to contact George Wedge you should be in good hands. Para USA is a great company and has perhaps the best customer service in the industry. When my PCX 745 broke the dealer screwed me until I contacted Para. After that I had my piece back in 7 days. The Dumb Ass dealer had it for over 5 months.

Gah. I ordered a Nite Hawg from a local dealer the last week of June. I was told 7-10 business days. Still no love, the dealer said the warehouse didn't have any in stock when I spoke to him last. Is it possible this far out that the delay is because of Para's backlog?

When I sent mine in for the $99 night sights they milled the slide and installed what looks like a Novak Low-Mount. They don't just pop something into the standard dovetail. Even when the sights are in stock you have to allow time for machining.

My rear sights are much brighter than the front. Should be the reverse! Rear are definitely Trij, don't know about the front.

Mine are the same brightness, which is not very. With most possible shots in my house being limited to 4 yards I'm not worried about it, as I don't even need sights.
