Title: Damn copper thiefs..
Post by: TAB on January 02, 2012, 12:49:19 AM
Our shop was broke into some time around 7 pm tonight.

All they took was a couple of spools of number 12 romex.( which were mine from my GC days lol)  They broke a $1200 door too do it... which of corse we can't get til friday as its a odd ball size and has to be made.( steal door)  After talking with the dective( yeah I was shocked he came out too)  just about every solar, HVAC, plumbing and electrical shop in the area has been hit.  Whats funny is we don't install solar, infact we do alot of the aduits for several solar companys. There was ~$75k of testing eq  sitting on the shelfs right next too the spools, Thank god the tweakers didn't know it.

So I've got it secured, but I'm going to be spending the night there for a few nights.  I figure the DE and the M1 carbine should be more then enough to make any tweaker copper thiefts day a bad one.   I hate thiefs.

I read an article about a South African security company. They didn't offer security guards or guard dogs. Those are for amateurs and posers. I mean, anyone worth a damn can bribe or take out a mall ninja or an overweight rottweiler with a hundred dollar bill, a scooby snack or a Saturday night special right? No, these guys offered snakes. Specifically, black mambas. You payed them, and they'd let a couple loose in your building at night. No one wants to deal with that (BTW, I'm sure their collections department is very efficient as well, as you don't want "free" services either ;D).
Still and all, I think its the way to go. I might take my chances with Gomer or Rin Tin Tin, but a ten foot long poisonous snake? Screw that, I'm out of there.  8)

we have though about the fir covered razor blades, but figured it was not worth the liabilty.

we are not even going to claim this on our insurance.  just not worth, less then $2000 in total loss. they would raise our rates more then that.

Can't have one rule for the legally licensed boss and a different rule for legally licensed employees.
It's discrimination.  ;D

Back in the days of my (foolish) youth, I knew a few "farmers" who used rattlesnakes to protect their crops..
Word gets around...

only person with a ccw in the shop.  only employee( yes techincally I am a employee, its a liabilty/tax thing) that does not live in sacramento county, so the chances of that changing until some one moves is about zero.

Then again, we have clay "lunchs" at the shop where about a dozen of us go shooting during lunch when we are near ranges.

If you're not worried about the neighbors, it seems plenty practical to me. You fire that thing once and folks will skeddadle.

No joke. We get people coming into the indoor range all the time with .357 Magnums, .44 Mags, etc. One guy came in with a .500 S&W - so what did we do? We cleared the range, turned out the lights, and let him shoot. The flame on that sucker in the dark is impressive!!
