Title: Springfield National Match M1A
Post by: red364 on January 11, 2012, 03:40:45 PM
There is one happy man in my house today. I'm not sure why though....it's not very pretty, but it will kill a zombie or two....
I got him what he wanted. 6 groove 1 in 10 twist, 2 stage military trigger match tuned, glass bedded...blah, blah, blah.....
Next is the scope or optics, not sure what he wants yet, I am resisting the thermal imaging though!   8)

Beautiful rifle! Whenever I want to hold a nice piece of machinery, I'll take my M1-A out of the safe.

If this becomes a major marital issue I'd be glad to store it for him ... All in the interest of family relations and all you know  ;D

Long ago, in a land far, far from here I got to play with it's brother the M14 and free ammo from our base armory!

What a hoot!

Where does the line start to babysit?

 ;)

I would not put Optics on it.
The NM is meant for iron sights out to 1000 yards +.
If he wants a scoped M1A get him the "White Feather next year.  ;D

Had Springfield build a NM M1A on a Fulton Armor receiver some years ago.

It was a beauty too, but without the SS barrel....

First day I took it to the range, there was a squad of Marines doing range time with their M16s with a Gunny for a honcho.

He wandered over to check out the M1A and looked at it so longingly I offered to let  him shoot it.....which he accepted..

He shot off hand and I was watching with my spotting scope and he shot a group better than I just did from a sandbag front rest.  I was in awe.

Honestly, I felt the right thing to do was to give it to him...they seemed made for each other.  I got better with it, but never nears as goos as that Gunny off hand.

Your man should be very pleased and is very lucky.  Well done, Red.

red, it is simply pure wood and metal.... BUT,...it is the Tim The Tool Man Taylor Rifle... complete with grunts,....As "ugly" as it is,....it is a work of art, and beauty to others, not unlike priceless artwork at the Met...

You are a kind and generous soul, to pass on a gift of such prestigious nature.

It is an M1A....

Zombie slayer, liberator, a true modern Minuteman's Rifle, and one to keep...

Very nice, with ALL the blah, blah, blah,.... ;) That's what makes it special... ;D

Nice rifle...one of my many 'wants'.

A woman that'll buy that rifle for him?......... sounds like he has much to be happy about on several fronts.

He's been a very good guy lately and he deserves it. It worked out for me too ya know, it was cheaper than the 50, and he had a perpetual hard on for a week after we ordered it!    ;D ;D ;D

You know, I've found that there is just something about women who are firearms enthusiasts that really strikes a chord with me....can't quite pin down what it is though....

Hi;

Bought my standard  M1A back in '76. It came with a fiberglass stock and have been wanting to get a wood stock for it since I had 1 with wood in Boot Camp. Just have not got around to buying the stock. Sighted it in up to the 500yd line at PI and still bring it out once in a while. This spring, a Nephew and his Daughter and Step Daughter will have a chance to shoot it and other Semi's in the inventory.

The "Come Back Kid" is being appreciated by the newer members of the Military over in Iraq and Afganistan. You will enjoy yours also.

TW, those are M14's...ain't the little button above the trigger, behind the bolt carrier the "selective fire" switch?

The guy in the first pic has the "happy button" if needed....The cool thing is the "if it ain't broke" mindset that someone in the military realized, and sent those rifles to the sandbox to help get the job done...

They still reach out and send those "sheetheads" to their goats,...er,,,uh,,,virgins... ;D

Very nice Red.  Sounds like he sure is a lucky man in more ways than one.

But why does he get an M1A and all we get are those awful motivational poster pictures? ???

Hi;

Timothy, That M14 in the pic is set up for auto fire   but  is missing the selector switch. This is/looks like a trigger and would attach to the round protrution you see in the pic. As the M14 is shown in the pic - it is set up for semi firing. In Boot Camp my 1 DI had a switch and let some of us fire our rifles on full auto when at the range. The switches were a "controlled" item. Authorization had to be given to have 1 on your person.

I had the pleasure of shooting one back in the 70's at my base in Northern California.  It was selective fire and a real hoot!  We also had about 1000 rounds of free ammo from the base armory to waste!

What a pleasure!   ;)

Red, you man is one lucky fella!

Was down at Gander Mountain last week. Looked at one with a black synthetic stock. The price tag was $1,999. My wife would have divorced me if I would have come home with it.  ;) She knows the M1A is one of my dream rifles.

Red, if you ever grow tired of your guy and dump him and go looking for someone better, can I have the M1A?   ;D ;D

Are you M'ette's sister?  I've heard that Marshal is still trying to figure out what that strange blue powder on his oatmeal is all about  ::)

Where are the range reports?

We had our guns out in the freezing rain and sleet today and had a blast!

I suggest you send him and his Christmas present to the real frozen north, and we will teach him how to use it.

I'll second that!  I've gone to the range and shovel my way to the target area!

Freezing rain?

I've gone shooting at -10. Make sure if you use lube on your gun that it is DRY lube otherwise it will at best be sluggish enough to cause failures to eject, if it doesn't lock up.

I used to shoot in cold weather when I was young....

But now I don't go to the range if it is below 30  :( :(

Wasn't a Christmas present, it was a just because one.   We live in the desert and don't have winters!   The whole damn town was pretty much closed down a few days because of the skiff of snow and the freezing rain.....they closed school for four days!!
Soon......he'll get to shoot it soon.         :)
