Title: Stevens 350
Post by: ellis4538 on January 25, 2012, 05:37:07 PM
I'm looking for an inexpensive HD SG and there is an ad in the latest "American Rifleman" for the 350.  It has bottom eject, dual rails, ghost ring sights...  Anyone tried/seen one?  I believe I have seen one but am not much of a SG person.  MSRP is $309 but the one I saw was sub $300.

PS:  I've seen the 870 and Mossy but...

I bought my HD 870 for $330 out the door (actually might have paid the $10 background check fee too) on sale at Big 5.  For the extra $30 I have access to a HUGE aftermarket if I feel the need to customize it (4 years and I haven't done a thing to it but shoot it) or if something breaks there is bound to be a replacement if not an improved version.

Just my $.02...

870's a no where close to that cheap in my area and especially not one set up similar to the Stevens.

FWIW

Reminds me a lot of the Ithaca 37, with the bottom eject. If you are not planning on doing major "customization" with aftermarket parts, I'd try it out.  JMHO

Also, check around for used Winchester 1300 Defenders with the 8 round tube. I have 2 of them and paid $150 for one and $100 for the other. There are a lot of aftermarket parts for the Winchesters (still not as much as the Remington, but plenty).

Peg, thanks for the suggestion but I hardly ever see any type of used TS in my area.  I don't plan on any changes.  Just want something for the house and figure if I can't do it with the 350 and any one of several pistols I'm in deep dodo.

Richard

PS:  I prefer ghost sights also.

It looks like a solid gun to me.

I've looked at them myself recently.

My only concern is a "tactical" reload of dropping a shell into the receiver and the cross bolt safety can be a pain.  I have an 870 so the safety ain't a big deal for me.

I handled an 870 with an 8 round magazine the other day at my FFL.  It was cheap, had some sharp edges and not at all that impressive for the money he was asking.

I have not found any brand that has a slide release and safety set up that I like as well as on the Mossberg 500.

I've never seen one, but I am a fan of Savage.....great quality, accuracy and value...

I did see this one at Buds for $208.    Now, that sounds like a super deal....

Solus, that is not the model I am talking about.  Read my OP.

Richard, I think that Savage makes the Stevens SG.  They're pretty much the same gun.

Didn't mean I was gonna find the configuration you wanted...just another name to find one you want.   It does come with Ghost ring sights, you just have to find the model.  Here is a promo video of it.

I did find this, however.  It appears ghost rings add $5 to the cost.
