You may have heard on the news about a southern California man put
under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found he owned 100
guns and allegedly had (by rough estimate) 100,000 rounds of ammunition
stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel.
My favorite quote from the dimwit television reporter: "Wow! He has
about a quarter million machine gun bullets."
The headline referred to it as a "massive weapons cache!"
By southern California standards someone owning 100,000 rounds
would be called "mentally unstable." Just imagine if he lived elsewhere:
In Arizona , he'd be called "an avid gun collector."
In Texas , he'd be called "a novice gun collector."
In Utah , he'd be called "moderately well prepared," but they'd
probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had
a corresponding quantity of stored food.
In Montana , he'd be called "The neighborhood 'Go-To' guy."
In Idaho , he'd be called "a likely gubernatorial candidate."
In Wyoming , he'd be called "an eligible bachelor."
And, in Louisiana , he would be called "a deer hunting buddy."

100 guns?
"beginner" in some circles.

Billt!!! Where's Billt? Last I heard he was visiting the left coast :o
After a news article that was alarmed by five guns and several hundred rounds of "bullets," I did an inventory: I am well past five guns, and far short of 100 firearms. However, I am almost equally balanced between handguns and long guns; My so called survival gear, camping and hunting gear in normal circles, would make a yuppie cry; and my "bullet" stash was very near six figures; empty brass, correctly labeled bullets, primers and powder stash would keep a small gun shop in business for a year; and those evil high capacity "clips" that are the reason so many people in AZ were killed last year :o

Several months ago I remember seeing a news story about a guy who was stopped while driving and in his car was found "multiple firearms, and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition". Please define "multiple handguns". And "more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition"? Please. I bring that much home from Wal-Mart some Saturdays.

Let me think here....100,000......250,000..... The reporter thinks 2/5th of something equals that something.
Using that same algorithm, that reporter has a 140 IQ ;D

A guy I worked with strangled his mother in law. What do you think the news focused on? Yep, how many guns he had. And they think all gun collectors are criminals or terrorists.

Was that me??? I have been stopped twice on league night. Wednesday evening I had three handguns (multiple handguns), and about 2,900 rounds (2 - 550 cartons of .22lr plinkers, 6 - 100 cases of .22lr standard velocity bullseye, 3 - 100 cases of .22lr smallbore, 400 rounds of .40 S&W for bullseye, and 500 .45 acp for bullseye) - I had to stop and figure this one out, because I am restocking the locker at the range. This total count does not include all of the loaded 10/22 magazines, loaded Mark III magazines, loaded Para (STI) mags, and loaded moon clips that I had in range bag number three.
Like I have said before, I don't think anything of how scary dangerous I am until I do an inventory when I read this crap.

Sounds like a "modest" collection to me........
In addition to what this guy had, I also possess a fair quantity of that horribly dangerous explosive BLACK POWDER!
(Used in my many muzzleloaders and also to load cowboy ammo.)
All I lack is a dirty rag to wrap around my head........wait, found one!

Gee whiz I can reach 'several' guns and not get up from pretty much any seat in my house!

And as they say in firearm safety - Every gun is always loaded ;D

I say that in real life, too. ;)

I am envious. That is a few more firearms and a couple of bullets more than me. ;D

I have been to Haz's house on countless occasions, and I can confirm he is never more than a quick reach from some form of firearm. Even the "throne-room" has something nearby that will go "bang" without having to get up to get it.
But, to balance that observation, he's also got quite a few that you would actually have to move something or open a locker door or a safe to get to.
And, there's one he wears inside his pants. Even as his best friend, I wouldn't want to go for that one. LOL

I live on Socal so does that mean I next. I have about 30 different guns but I keep about 1000 rounds per rifle and about 500 rounds per handgun. Maybe I'm nuts. F-it ;D
