Any experiences with SA emp? Im considering one. Prior experiences with short barrel 1911 platforms have given me concern with reliablity issues.

isn't this a 1911 9mm? If it is the one that I am thinking of by Springfield it is a beautiful pistol although I can't imagine why anyone would want it in 9mm.

Yes, it's a 1911. It is on a smaller frame. Front to back dimensions of the grip frame are smaller. I carry a SW 1911pd, was condidering the EMP 9mm as a backup instead of my 642.

It also comes in .40 short and weak. Thought about getting one, but I can't see paying more than $600 for a 9 or a .40

I have one on order for my wife. She's never tried the 1911 platform (as she shies away from .45) and liked the way the EMP felt. While I understand this was built from the ground up for 9mm - not a converted .45 design - I hear it still needs a break-in before it will take JHPs - like most of today's tight 1911s. I'll get to see how she handles FTFs, etc.

A while back, I read that SA was building a 1911, downsized around the .45 Glock action pistol round. I think the emp springs from that platform. So far I've never seen the .45 gap pistol. The .45 gap is the same overall length as a 9mm or .40 s&w, so pistols in this caliber could be more easily modified to take the larger round, from Browning high powers to CZ 75's, and of course the small frame glocks, for which it was designed. I am slowly being led by my friends into believing the 9mm has come a long way.Bullet and powder technology has brought it up to a true defense round. The juries still out IMO.

Winchester Ranger T 127gr +P+ 9mm will serve you quite well as a self defense load -- expecially in a fine pistol like the HK P7-series... ;D

I would also be curious to what anyone has experienced? I was out looking for a new SIG today, and happened to notice an EMP in the next case.
Looked great, felt great ... but I'd need to see how they handle before spending that much on just looks & feel alone.
