Title: Changing the color

I have a holster from a major leather maker but I'm thinking about changing from chestnut to black.  Is that possible?

It's possible  though I think you would regret it....once the pores of leather are sealed it is very difficult to get all the sealant out of the pores...most probalby would cause the black to bub off on your clothing.

I for one would never recommend this to any ofmy customers...but that's me

I think you have a good chance of it as long as you're changing to black.
I've done it by using a deglazer sold at Tandy....it did a good job of stripping the finish off of the holster I worked on.
Let it dry for a day or so, ....you can see the color of the leather get dull.....then apply the black dye.
I went from a tan to a dark brown, and it worked well for me.
