Title: How Los Angeles Spends Stimulus Money, And "Creates" Jobs,....NOT!
Post by: twyacht on February 11, 2012, 03:17:08 PM
OBTW, the money is "supposed" to create jobs.....However, kinda knowing quite a bit about marine refits.....EVERY mechanic, welder, electrician, fabricator, pipe fitter, etc,....Will be from an existing company.

So the "net" creation of jobs will be a big fat ZERO....

But hey, the local marine companies make something. As I'm sure the old girls engines are not up to California Emissions....

Too bad, those old diesels were rock solid.

-snip-

“The port is using $489,000 in federal taxpayer stimulus money that is supposed to go create jobs, plus another $200,000 coming from the port — totaling $689,000 for new engines [emphasis added],” CBS Los Angeles reports.

“It’s not helping to create any real jobs,” said Tom Schatz with Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).

“It’s a big waste of money both for taxpayers across the country and for Los Angeles residents, who clearly aren’t all going to benefit from this and are spending money at a time when the city is more than $70 million in the red,” Schatz said.

*****

That 78' could be re-powered for about $350k roughly $150k per engine for nice American CATS, and $50k for the work....

but hey as long as it's FREE MONEY!!!!! Maybe it will run on french fry oil too.... ::)

I wuz just out there with my new grandbaby-girl and this was saturating the news reports ever night for two weeks.

Seems someone has noticed that LA can't pay its teachers but they can come up with half-a-mil for a refit of a hunnerd-thousand-dollar boat.

And, it seems someone brought it to the attention of the local talking heads.  And since the news stations are always looking for something to insert between reports of drive-by shootings and elementary school teachers molesting little boys and girls, this piece got maximum play.

I saw a piece of video of the port director who was asked about this boondoggle and it would make the perfect illustration for the expression "deer in the headlights."    Absolute fear, as in:  I've been caught doing something really bad.

And, a little off topic, but I'll throw it in anyhow...

Much has been said about the Mexicans wanting to take over Southern California, and I can state with some certainty that it remains a question no longer.  It is an accomplished fact.  It's been done.  It's all over but the changing of the flags.

The worry now is Arizona, my second most favored state.  Seems within the last couple of weeks, a woman running for elected office was not allowed on the ballot because she doesn't speak enough English.  Naturally, she sued.  Amazingly, she lost.  But, it's just a start.

Are there any American States where they still speak English and respect the flag and do patriotic stuff like honoring veterans?  If there are any suggestions, please PM me.
