Title: Actress and Directors "blown away" by reality of SEALs in cast of "Act of Valor"
Post by: Solus on February 20, 2012, 12:30:35 PM
Does anyone else feel that the true quality of our service men would be surprising only to Hollywood and those who get their reality from Hollywood?

'Act of Valor' star Roselyn Sanchez preferred working with Navy SEALs to Hollywood actors

“What surprised me was how unaffected and cool they were," Sanchez told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column of the SEALs. "Here they were doing a Hollywood movie and it wasn’t a big deal, they went along for the ride, they did their thing and they were incredible. I didn’t see any diva behavior. It was new for me to work with guys that even if they were waiting around for eight hours and didn’t have a trailer, they were content. It was refreshing.”

“As were led inside the community, we connected with this brotherhood of men that totally blew us away. We thought this was something that only existed in mythology,” McCoy explained. “But when we really connected with these men, and learned about the real acts of valor that have happened on the battlefield over the last ten years, they were more mind-blowing than anything a Hollywood screenwriter could write… And all the operational planning was done by the SEALs, every op you see go done in the movie, it was written by the SEALs so it is 100 percent legit.”

“The caliber of these guys was just so unbelievably amazing," McCoy added. "They were some of the most competent, intellectual, dynamic men you have ever met in your lives,” he said. “Given the weight of the subject matter and paying respect to their communities, the only way to do it was with the real guys.”

I had a girlfriend once who told me that she thought that the military was filled with the dregs of society.  Yep, those were her exact words.  Turns out her family was or is very liberal.  Her father taught Jewish studies classes at Washing University in St. Louis.  And her uncle was also an art professor at the same school.   ::)

I reckon the rest of her family held the same opinion of the miltary.

Her logic was that people joined the military because they didn't have the money to go to college.

So these Hollywood types just insulate or cocoon themselves away from the real world.

It's not just that, although with the hollyweird types of the OP that was part of it.
But to actually be there hearing these guys plan how they are going to take down a room, or building or what ever, every one just focused on their job, with none of the ego BS , or bitching that you hear most places would impress any one.

No doubt they would be in awe of the professionalism and capabilities of a SEAL team...all with no drama involved....

But what struck me more and gave me insight to the types of people the Hollywood types are was this:

I didn’t see any diva behavior. It was new for me to work with guys that even if they were waiting around for eight hours and didn’t have a trailer, they were content.

Diva behavior?...and no one whining because they had to wait out in the open..even though it was 8 hours?  That describes a slick sleeve in basic ...where they are just learning self discipline and self control....let alone members of one of the most advanced special forces groups in the world.

They have no concept of what troops in the field endure to ensure their freedom.

What measuring stick must they be used to using in guage their peers?  Hopefully they will see things in a different spectrum now...it seems like this group might.

The industry that lives and breaths by the constant acknowledgment that what they do matters, meets the industry that prefers to keep their accomplishments to themselves and live quietly in the knowledge that what they do does matter!

Quite a conundrum!

Sanchez looks great in a bikini but other than that I could give a shit what she says!

Yep...before the recent awards...was it The Emmy?  don't recall, really...but I do remember ads for some special or maybe that event itself being billed as   "Actors celebrating actors celebrating acting".  How inane can they get?  It is as meaningful and important as "Plumbers celebrating plumbers celebrating plumbing"  Plumbers would be embarrassed by it but Hollywood thinks it's their greatest moment.

PM me their names - I went to Wash (out) U back in the day, the prof's are probably the same ones. Uber liberal school indeed.

the X-girlfriend's maiden name was Schnurrman.

Her father would come over and BBQ the best pork ribs, though.   ;D

I remember one time we were riding in a car with them and one of the relatives asked me "Where would you like to live?"  I replied with "Out in the country."  So they ask "Why?"  And just then some ambulance or police car flew by with lights and sirens, so I replied with, "So I don't have to listen to that all the time."

Their response was something like, "Don't you realize that the ambulance is just trying to help out some poor under privileged person?"

Wow Tyler, a Jew that eats pork. Interesting.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out on DVD. Noticed that Marcus Luttrel made a comment about the movie and gave the other SEALS a thumbs up.

Those who make it into the program are absolutely amazing individuals. Recently found out the a buddy of mine from high school made it in. He was a geeky punk rocker with me in high school. Never would have thought him to become a SEAL. He did and is now a body builder. He is really intelligent and made great grades in school.

A Vetran is someone who at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to the people of the United States , up to and including his life.

Seen them in work in Iraq. The SF really impressed me.

It's been several years since I went to a movie.

I saw Act of Valor   yesterday.

It was worth the wait.
