As the title depicts, I just came back from Tulsa OK, from the Wanenmacher gunshow, It is huge, 11 acres under roof and 2 stories. If local lore is to be believed, if you go down every aisle, it is 17.5 miles long, not counting the 3/4 walk from the truck because their main parking lot was under construction, I did the whole thing on Saturday, My hips are killing me!! Now to the show. More Winchester lever actions, Colt SAA's, and high grade Brownings than I have ever seen in one place. I did go to the USSA booth, Erik Lund was not there but I did talk to His Boss who gives him high marks and I got some literature for a tactical rifle class in my semi immediate future.
2) Bill Laughridge was there and had some good used parts as well as wisdom and direction.
3) Bought a Schonfeld, 2x8 tactical scope with tactical rings, never heard of this brand before, but the glass looks good and it has a ton of features, mildot reticle, illuminated, side parallax adjustment, rear quick focus, positive adjustments on the elevation and windage. 195.00 out the door. I will give a report later.
4) I met Chris Rosequist from BOHICA, BEND OVER HERE IT COMES AGAIN, with their ..50 BMG caliber uppers for the AR15 lowers. I will try real hard to get one before November..
5) Something I was told about but had not yet seen, Nordic Components new 10/22 modular chassis, it encapsulates a 10/22
receiver, and will accept any AR15 stock, grip or full float handguard, it is way cool, but I'm going to hold out until the initial rush is over, before I purchase one, but I will purchase one, at 10 feet, it looks like an AR, and in the hands it feels like an AR.
6) A new book and dvd combo about Herb Parsons, written by his sons, who were present at the show, Tom Knapp, John Satterwhite, and others have used Herbs words and techniques through the years, but no one has equaled him, Tom Knapp is at least trying. The book is titled " Showman Shooter" and has many newspaper articles, pictures and testimony. If anyone has seen " Fast and Fancy shooters" they know his showmanship and skills. I met his boys yesterday, and I had to ask, which one of you was in the video circa 1951 or so, Lynn was the one, now a doctor and Jerry, the other son is a PHD. As a bonus, in the back of the book is a DVD, with Herb's footage, believe me, this man stands tall with all the greats, Ad Topperwine, Bill Jordan, Ed McGivern etc... I highly recommend this book, and since the original " Fast and Fancy " videos came out, there is new footage of AD Topperwine and his wife that has come unveiled. Another unbelievable couple in the world of shooting.
Lastly, I'm so sorry to hear of Charlton Hestons, death, Although as I renewed my NRA membership, today, and I did not know at the time, I know he would have been proud. He was a Giant, not only to the gun community but he was head of the screen actors guild during Joseph McCarthy, and his anti-communisim crusade, Charlton stood tall for rights, not verbage, took personal heat and blacklisting, and came out on top. In his own words, " FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS " Rest in peace, and may his family be comforted by the Lord we share.

Great report, sounds like you had fun ;D Did you run into any other Forum members there? I think Rastus said he was going.

Thanks for letting us in on it. The Raleigh show is much smaller and pretty predictable. Going to take a look at Nordic.
Thanks, Mac.
Search on Nordic failed. Any idea on a web address?

We've been to the Tulsa gun show in the past. Couldn't make it this weekend..
It has obviously grown a lot since I was there last.
Thanks for posting on it.

1st for DDMAC, http://www.gunkings.com/ for a picture of the Nordic 10/22 setup.
2nd Erik I spoke with Mike, can't remember the last name and can't find his card. I did get a pen and a schedule for the tactical rifle class. Is he really your boss or was he having me on?
3rd Theresa, they only hold the Wanenmacher twice a year, it is at the expo center.
4th the scope is similar to this http://www.night-vision-gear.com/schoenfeld-156x24-tactical-rifle-scope-p-163.html, but in 2x8 with a side parallax.

Take a look at these guys too, unless Haz, their neighbor in St. Pete, has concerns about them.

I managed to get in a few hours of the show on Sunday, after Church. Saturday was spent with the wife getting her CCW training at USSA....wanted to make certain she liked it so I could invest in a family membership when I get the beans.
And no, Hazcat, I didn't see any real deals on quality ammo...at least after shipping. I think going to www.ammoman.com or www.bigdogammo.com (the best...got the tracers, incendiary, etc.) or MidwayUSA, Natchez, or somewhere like that will get you what you need at a better price. Heck, I picked up 5 boxes of SS-195 at the close but only at the close and only after, when he thought he had my business, I walked away to which he wanted to know where I could buy it cheaper...so I told him and he came down.
Picked up a "to go" case for my PS-90...kinda kewl....keeps everything together, including the Five SeveN pistol and mags....and an FNP 9 clip...ouch...that FN stuff hurts to buy.
No guns this time...picked up and M&P in 45 the week before.....
-
That depends if it was Mike Brown or Mike Seeklander. I know Brendan went out to the show, but I don't know who else went.
Rastus, who did your wife's CCW course?

Rastus, who did your wife's CCW course?
Erik
Wes Elliot...he does a very good job. She's been through CCW before and actually enjoyed this training as opposed to hating her earlier training. I think using the Five SeveN was a better choice for her than the .22 LR the first time...made her think she was using a "real" gun. In fact, she wants to go to intro to pistol marksmanship with our 18 year old and supports a family membership....and I'm afraid I'll have to share that 5.7 with her. BTW, she was surprised such a pretty girl worked out there (you know who) and, of course, I didn't know what she was talking about.....
Also...saw Brendan in OPS yesterday and he said the custom shop is doing a trigger job on the M&P's for about $100....sounds like a deal to me. I picked up one in .45 Friday week ago, but I need to put a couple of hundred rounds through it before I send it for the treatment. I dry fired the M&P a few times and it's already got a trigger 2 light years ahead of the SR9 I picked up a couple of months ago....can't wait to see what can be done with it...gonna ask about that SR9 and and FNP9 too. Also...also..I work with Tim....the guy who's got your gun....you need to lean on him 'bout that..said he's tried to get back with you a couple of times...I'd make him ante' up that gun case he carries in the back of his car for pennance.
-
Yeah, Wes is a great guy and a very good instructor. We are lucky to have such talent in the local area.
No need to share! That sounds like an outstanding reason to buy another gun just for you! ;D
Yeah, it's pretty hard to miss Chaera. What most people don't know is that her and a couple of others are the real glue that holds that place together! I would hate to lose her. Chaera and Shelly are the two main reasons I don't get fired!
I got a chance to play with one of the custom shop M&P's with the trigger job. It is quite impressive! You won't be disappointed. If I ever pick up a M&P, it'll go right to the shop before the first round ever gets fired. That gun spoiled me for M&P triggers.
I work with Tim....the guy who's got your gun
Really? Which one? You can alway tell him to reach me through the USSA website.

That's one gunshow that sounds like would be a blast (no phun intended) to go too! :o

Hawkfish, it really is a blast. They hold it twice a year....next show from them is in October. I didn't know how fortunate I was to move to the Tulsa area 10 years ago...the biggest public gun show in the world...plus another gun show in town just about every month. Now...we've got USSA opened up and it looks like Tulsa may become gun central here in the U.S. And USSA allows public memberships!!!!gotta get those taxes done to join up.
Look up the gun show they've got pictures you can look at on their website and make plans to attend in October....might be your last chance after the elections.....

I would like to attend if I could work-out the extra money between now and then. But, probably won't happen :-\. But, I do already have plans to attend one or two gunshows here in NC. Charlotte seems to be the best one's anywhere close to me. I do buy a lottery ticket every now and then.. so if I was to win enough, I'll definetely be heading to Tulsa in October. ::) A guy I work with use to live out there a few years back. When he found out about my love affair with guns ::), he said, "you should move out there. There are lots of gun-people out there and BIG gunshows." lol..

I made the trip for the Tulsa Gun Show. WOW! something for everyone, in evry price range, too. I was there 2 days, and still didnt see it all. Will go to next spring's gun show also, with more money!
